News broke out this week that Cody and Brandi Rhodes have left AEW. In fact, Tony Khan announced the Rhodes departure on social media. Word has it that Cody is headed to the WWE. Will his wife be joining him?

Brandi Rhodes Joining WWE?

Sports Illustrated is reporting that Cody Rhodes’s WWE return is imminent. In fact, because he did not have a non-compete clause in his AEW contract, he could have an explosive comeback to his old stomping ground on television, as early as next week.

But will his wife Brandi Rhodes join him? According to the report, she likely won’t be coming along for Cody’s WWE ride.

As per the report, multiple sources confirm Brandi is not expected to join the WWE. With that said, don’t count Ms. Rhodes out of wrestling anytime soon.

Brandi Rhodes Is Not Joining WWE … For Now …

She recently revealed to SI that she’s focused on winning wrestling championship gold. That might not happen anytime soon.

However, this is the land of professional wrestling, where anything is possible. Perhaps, Brandi doesn’t join Cody for his massive WWE return right now, but at a later date.

Over to the land of AEW, as one superstar exits, another may enter. Seems like they have their eyes on a former WWE superstar.

AEW Interested In Ex Superstar

Buddy Murphy was released from the WWE in the summer of 2021 and has been looking for a new wrestling “home” since. Now going as “Buddy Matthews”, he’s had a nice run on the Indie scene.

Brandi Rhodes Joining WWE

Matthews worked events for New Japan Pro-Wrestling in late 2021, and Major League Wrestling in January 2022. Now, he may score something more permanent in the near future.

In late 2021, wrestling news reports revealed that AEW had passed on signing Buddy. The company might be changing its tune on this.

According to Fightful Select, AEW is very interested in bringing Matthews into the fold at this time. Some sources note that his creative plans are “set”.

Meanwhile, others note that creative ideas have only been “pitched”. Only time will tell if Buddy ends up becoming All Elite.

Buddy Matthews Has Potential

Buddy signed with the WWE in 2013 and debuted on NXT that November. In August 2014, he formed a tag team with Wesley Blake.

The two would eventually become NXT Tag Team Champions during their run. In 2018, after losing about 25 pounds, Matthews jumped to the main roster and joined 205 LIVE.

He would enjoy a nice run as Cruiserweight Champion. Matthews eventually landed on SmackDown in 2019.

He was then drafted to RAW. He would team up with Seth Rollins, and the two became RAW Tag Team Champions at one point.

Sadly, Buddy was one name of a long list of superstars that were released from the WWE in 2021. He’s yet to officially land with another wrestling promotion, so here’s hoping AEW fans get another nice surprise debut, soon.

There’s no exact timetable on a possible Buddy Matthews jump to AEW. Nothing has also been confirmed.
