She was undefeated, and somewhat entertaining to watch, so Aspen Ladd earned herself a main event slot opposite Germaine de Randamie for UFC on ESPN+13.
But when it came time to weigh in on Friday, Ladd looked like a complete mess. She was shaking uncontrollably, and barely seemed alert–all the telltale signs of someone who’s killed their body with dehydration for the sake of a scale. Would she be able to perform come fight time?
Furness said Ladd will be checked 90 minutes before the fight, but he does not anticipate issues. Re: her shivering, he said: “A little bit of nerves. She’s part of the main event and I believe she had missed weight in a previous fight. That was contributing to it, I believe.”

The answer is NOPE.
De Randamie, who was briefly the featherweight champ but opted to give up the belt rather than face Cris Cyborg, needed 16 seconds and one punch to rattle Ladd’s dehydrated brain. And while, sure, maybe referee Herb Dean jumped in a little early. But would he have done so–and would Ladd have reacted to that punch so–had she not killed herself trying to make weight?
