You may be surprised to learn that Paul McCartney is finally a billionaire.

That may sound strange to say, but consider other musicians who are already billionaires: Sean Combs (temporarily?), Rihanna, and Jay-Z are already billionaires.

None of them have the tiniest fraction of the chops of the former co-leader of The Beatles, and yet it took this long for the man from Liverpool.

Paul McCartney: Billionaire

The Sunday Times Rich List revealed McCartney’s new status as a billionaire today.

One might think that this happened a long long time ago, considering McCartney co-led the biggest band in the history of the planet in The Beatles.

Not so! But it happened eventually. The Sunday Times credits McCartney’s back catalogue, and help from R&B-turned-country singer Beyoncé, whose cover of “Blackbird” must be just raining royalties on McCartney.

It doesn’t hurt that at 81, McCartney is still touring and making new music. His new net worth – which has something to do with strange Byzantine UK tax laws, puts him at a billion pounds right on the nose. That’s roughly $1.2 billion American.

Sir Paul McCartney: Legend

There’s even a new McCartney album on the way. McCartney and Wings are releasing a bootleg titled “One Hand Clapping” on June 14.

The 1974 recording session has been locked tightly away until now. The AV Club describes the prominence of this collection:

Described as “one of the most bootlegged live albums in musical history,” One Hand Clapping was recorded as McCartney and his post-Beatles outfit were enjoying the blockbuster success of their album Band On The Run.

Listen to the Wings single “Hi Hi Hi” below.

To make it even better, “One Hand Clapping” was recorded at the legendary Abbey Road.

McCartney’s discography is a testament to his musical genius and staying power:

  • 26 studio albums
  • 4 compilation albums
  • 9 live albums
  • 37 video albums
  • 111 singles
  • 7 classical albums
  • 5 electronica albums
  • 17 box sets
  • 79 music videos

So if you want to make a billion dollars in your lifetime, there’s your roadmap! Congratulations to the GOAT Paul McCartney!
