Sir Rod Stewart was forced to scrap two nights of his Las Vegas residency after coming down with a sinus infection that left him unable to perform.
Cancelation Announcement
The 81‑year‑old singer was due to hit the stage at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace on May 29 and 30, but both shows were pulled just hours before showtime – leaving fans scrambling after already arriving in the city.
A representative confirmed the cancellations were made on medical advice, with doctors insisting Stewart go on strict vocal rest. He’s expected to return to the stage on June 2.
Stewart addressed the situation directly, telling fans, “My apologies to my family of fans. I am on vocal rest as I recover from a sinus infection. I look forward to seeing you at a future show at Caesars Palace or on tour this summer.”
No Intention of Retiring

The setback comes during one of the busiest stretches of his later career.
Despite scaling back the size of his tours, Stewart has repeatedly insisted he has no intention of retiring. Confusion erupted last year when he announced a “farewell” run, but he later clarified he was stepping away from worldwide touring – not live performance altogether.
He explained at the time, “This will be the end of large-scale world tours for me, but I have no desire to retire. I love what I do, and I do what I love.”
Intensive Workouts
He even joked about his stamina, adding, “I’m fit, have a full head of hair, and can run 100 meters in 18 seconds at the jolly old age of 79.”
Stewart has long credited his fitness routine for keeping him stage‑ready into his ninth decade.
In an interview last year, he described a strict training program involving swimming, sprint drills and strength work. One exercise involves diving to the bottom of a pool to push a brick across it. He also revealed he’s been working on improving his sprint times on a private running track, aiming to hit 17 seconds – a target he joked could be a world record for an 80‑year‑old.
Frustration from Fans
The cancelled Vegas shows sparked frustration online. Some fans say they received notifications less than two hours before the scheduled start time.
One user on X said they were alerted at 5:48 pm for a 7:30 pm show. Others questioned whether Stewart should still be performing at such an intense pace.
