Sir Rod Stewart thanked King Charles for sorting out “rat bag” President Donald Trump on his recent state visit to the US.
Meeting with the King
The monarch, 77, met the rocker, 81, at the King’s Trust 50th Anniversary Celebration on May 11, and the former let out nervous laughter after Rod made the awkward comment whilst congratulating him on a successful trip across the pond last month.
The First Cut Is the Deepest hitmaker told King Charles, “May I say, well done in the Americas. You were superb. Absolutely superb. You put that little rat bag in his place.”
Rolling Stones legend Ronnie Wood, 78, chuckled beside Rod as the latter shared how much he loathes President Trump with King Charles.
In January, Rod branded President Trump a “draft dodger” when he falsely claimed British troops serving in Afghanistan did not assist American military personnel.
The Maggie May hitmaker said in a video shared to Instagram, “I may just be a humble rock star, but I’m also a Knight of the realm, and I have my opinions. I was born just after the war, and I have great respect for our armed forces that fought and gave us our freedom.
“So it hurts me badly, deeply, when I read that draft dodger Trump has criticised our troops in Afghanistan for not being on the front line.”
Stewart and Trump’s Past
Rod and President Trump got on years ago and lived near each other in Florida.
In June 2025, the Grammy winner told Radio Times magazine, “I’m not a great fan of Trump. I knew him very, very well. … used to go to his house. I live literally half a mile away… We’re both on the beach. I used to go to his Christmas parties.”
“He’s always been a bit of a man’s man. I liked him for that. But he didn’t, as far as I’m concerned, treat women very well. But since he became President, he became another guy. Somebody I didn’t know.”
The Reason to Believe singer could never be as close to him now.
Comments on the War

Rod said, “No, I can’t anymore. As long as he’s selling arms to the Israelis – and he still is. How’s that war ever gonna stop?”
“And we should stop selling them as well. What did [British Prime Minister Sir Keir] Starmer say yesterday? They dropped the talks on trade? What f***ing difference is that gonna make? Someone’s gotta do something.”
“What [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu is doing to the Palestinians is exactly what happened to the Jews. It’s annihilation, and that’s all he wants to do – get rid of them all. I don’t know how they sleep at night.”
