Last week, the country music star Lainey Wilson won entertainer of the year at the ACM Awards. Now, Wilson is speaking out to give all the credit for her success to God.

Wilson Sounds Off

It was nearly 13 years ago that Wilson, now 32, packed her things and moved from the 200-person town in Baskin, Louisiana to Nashville, Tennessee to pursue country music. Though she was initially met with years of rejection, she never gave up. Now, she believes that God had a plan for her throughout these difficult years.

“I think the Lord kind of wanted me to live a little bit more life so I could have more stories to tell, so I could relate to more people,” Wilson told Fox News.

“That’s what it’s about when you kind of zoom out and you think about all of this,” she added. “It’s important to remember and realize, why are we doing this? And what are we doing this for?”

Wilson went on to say that the rejection she previously faced has only made her more relatable now.

“It’s just because we all want to feel something,” she explained. “And, I think, because of that rejection, I think people can relate to some of my stories.”

Wilson Is ‘Hardheaded’

As for how she stuck it out during the hard times, Wilson revealed that she’s simply a stubborn and determined woman.

“I think a lot of the rejection really just kind of made me want it that much more,” she said, adding that she is “hardheaded. I really am, and if you could sit down and talk to my parents, you would realize why I am the way that I am.”

“Both of them, when they have their mind made up, that’s it,” she continued. “And I’ve had my mind made up from the very beginning that I was going to do this.”

Last month, Wilson opened up about her faith in another interview with Fox News.

“I feel like there’s a few things that keep me grounded,” Wilson said. “My faith, most importantly.”

“I run my mouth a lot, but I talk to God a lot too,” she added. “I think it’s really important to stay as grounded as you possibly can.”
