Last week, Beyoncé was named as the greatest pop star of the 21st century by Billboard. Fans of Taylor Swift, who call themselves Swifties, immediately melted down over this. (And maybe not without justification!) Indeed, they fired back by expressing their outrage that Swift wasn’t given the honor over Beyoncé.
Now, Swift’s true thoughts about Beyoncé being given this distinction over her have been revealed.
Swift’s Feelings About Beyoncé
A source told Daily Mail that Swift, 34, isn’t bitter about this situation at all. In fact, she sees Beyoncé, 34, as being a “source of inspiration” for her.
“Taylor couldn’t be happier about this,” the insider claimed. “Beyoncé has had her back since day one when Kanye tried to take her award away. At the time Taylor was getting her start and Beyoncé was already a massive superstar.”
Swift and Beyoncé have been close friends ever since the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards. There, the rapper Kanye West infamously interrupted Swift while she was accepting an award, saying that it should have gone to Beyoncé.

“Since the VMAs, Taylor has looked up to Beyoncé as a source of inspiration,” the source explained. “She knows that she has been in this game longer and has had a massive influence.”
“She is not against collaborating with her one day,” the insider added. “The two are close and in contact all the time. While she is flattered that her fans are upset because they believe she should be number one, Taylor is humbled by the fact that she has built an empire.”

Swifties Lose Their Minds
This comes after Swifties branded Billboard as a “joke” over the publication naming Beyoncé as the greatest pop star of the 21st century.
“This is pathetic and should ACTUALLY be corrected,” one bitter Swiftie commented. “Who approved this list? First of all, yalls bs lists are always unbelievably inaccurate.”
“She deserved #1 don’t even lie she is the biggest artist of all time not just of the century,” another Swiftie wrote. A third fan added, “Taylor had more impact in the last 5 years than Beyoncé in her whole career ×5.”
Billboard Responds
Despite this, Billboard has stood by the decision to dub Beyoncé as the greatest pop star of the 21st century.
“While Taylor Swift is the century’s biggest pop star by the numbers, Beyoncé tops our staff-chosen editorial list based on her full 25 years of influence, impact, evolution,” Billboard explained.
Billboard went on to say that Swift “‘really challenged Beyoncé for the top spot on these rankings” and even has “a clear statistical lead on Bey in many key categories.” However, Swift “hasn’t been around for long enough to be able to match the expansiveness of her quarter-century of dominance.”
“‘If you go by the sheer numbers, Taylor would easily top this list,” Billboard continued, explaining that “even with her late start, she has more No. 1 albums and as many No. 1 singles this century as Beyoncé.”
“When you’re talking about greatness for the 21st century specifically, no one has a longer or fuller track record than Beyoncé,” Billboard concluded.
Only time will tell if Swifties are able to forgive Billboard for this apparent transgression!
