After 10 years, Hilary Duff is back. And her new single has shocked fans.
That’s right, Hilary Duff makes her return to music with a raunchy new song, Mature. The song was released on Thursday night, November 6th, and marks her first piece of new music in a decade.
Hilary Duff, most known for her work in Lizzie McGuire, has grown up, and fans are here for it. The piece of “autofiction”, according to a release, was co-written by Duff, 38, her husband, Grammy-winning producer and songwriter Matthew Koma, and singer-songwriter Madison Love.
“Mature is a little conversation that my present self is having with my younger self,” Duff said in the release. “The two of us are reflecting on a past experience and sending love to each other. It’s a chuckle, a wink, and a sense of being grateful that we are sure footed in where we landed.”
Duff teased Mature hours before its release with a short clip from the song’s music video on Instagram. She captioned the clip with “8PM EST. Be there,” alongside the cocktail, sparkle, and cherry emojis.
Mature features, raunchy lyrics not previously heard in the Disney Channel alum’s earlier songs.
In another Instagram post, she talked about her new song, saying, “Mature speaks to my mature self calling my not so mature self on the phone many years ago, and she’s letting her know we landed softly. This was a brief time with a lover that left me with so many questions… It felt like a good place to start. How are we feeling… Mature?
The full video, directed by Lauren Dunn, gained nearly half a million views on YouTube in under 14 hours, according to ABC News, and reached number 20 on the trending music charts. You can find the full video below.
Fans are not only excited to see this new side of the actress and singer, but are thrilled to follow her path in music once more. Hopefully, we can see more releases in the future. And for those who want to keep up with her music career, keep checking back for more news.
