Splinters can be painful. Unfortunately, they are a part of life that everyone seems to encounter. They also can be a chore to get out, especially when you are trying to remove the splinter from a child.
My grandma would light a match to a needle to sanitize it. Then she’d prick the skin near the splinter and push it through the hole she had created. It was uncomfortable, to say the least, but something we had to endure every time we had a splinter! I used this method on my kids, but I have a new way of removing splinters after seeing a Facebook post of a British mom who has a brilliant and painless solution to this problem everyone seems to encounter.
Claire Bullen-Jones’s post has been shared over 71,000 times! She has been using this ingenious and simple solution for years and she decided to share it with her friends. She never expected it to garner such attention!
She uses the oral syringe that comes with children’s medicine. She puts the syringe’s hole on the splinter. When she knows it is touching the right place on the skin, She quickly pulls the syringe. Claire reports the syringe typically removes the splinter on the very first try! She also reports that removing a splinter with a syringe is pain-free.
Claire uses syringes that come with the medicine Calpol, but she said that other syringes will work as well. Her viral and very informing post is below.

Wow! This is so simple that I can’t believe it wasn’t common knowledge! Every parent seems to have oral syringes around the house from children’s medicine. If not, you can ask the pharmacist for one. I definitely will be keeping a couple on hand to be prepared for the next splinter!
Share this to let others know about this simple and pain-free way to remove splinters!
