Not only has it been confirmed that Spaceballs 2 is happening, but Mel Brooks, the Hollywood legend who will turn 99 later this month, has confirmed that he will make an appearance in the sequel.
Brooks will be reprising his role as Yogurt in the follow-up movie. Not only that, but Brooks directed and co-wrote the original film in 1987, which was a cult-classic comedy spoofing the iconic science-fiction legend Star Wars. Think of Yogurt similar to Yoda. Brooks also played dual roles, with the other being the inept President Skroob.
Instead of Brooks, Josh Greenbaum is directing the script by Benji Samit, Dan Hernandez, and Josh Gad, who is also rumored to star in the sequel. Apparently, the movie has been in development for years. Gad teased work on the project in 2024 with a cryptic Instagram post that blocked out certain sections of the script’s cover page.
“Just handed in a film script that I think may be the funniest and best thing I’ve ever worked on and I am so freaking excited,” Gab captioned the post.
An exact date of release will be announced later by Amazon MGM. Unfortunately, details of the new movie is being kept under tight wraps, but has said, “While the title, plot details, and rest of cast are being kept under wraps, the film has been described by those who have not yet read the script as ‘A Non-Prequel Non-Reboot Sequel Part Two’ but with Reboot Elemtns Franchise Expansion Film.”
