Despite repeated threats by the United States and other countries, North Korea continues to defy international pressure in its pursuit of building an Intercontinental Ballistic Missile capable of carrying a nuclear warhead.

In recent months, the Trump administration has tried to pressure China to persuade North Korea to discontinue its nuclear program but to no avail, and now it looks like the situation on the Korean Peninsula has worsened.

North Korea’s state-run newspaper has threatened to turn the United States into a “pile of ash” if the Trump administration tries to use military force to stop its nuclear program.

North Korea’s latest threat comes just days after the U.S. successfully tested its THAAD missile defense system designed to take down ballistic missiles.

The successful THAAD test is especially important given that North Korea’s Hwasong-14 is believed to be capable of reaching most of Alaska. The U.S. conducted its latest test in the Pacific Ocean near Hawaii and Alaska, sending a powerful message to North Korea that continued missile tests will not be tolerated.

The United States has not announced what steps it would take if North Korea continues to defy international orders and continues with its missile testing.
