The Hollywood star Whoopi Goldberg is speaking out this week to give fans an update on the making of Sister Act 3.
Sister Act 3 Is ‘Still On The Way’
“It’s still on the way! It’s percolating,” Goldberg, 68, told People Magazine on Wednesday. “They have not said, ‘We’re over you and this movie.'”
“We’re still in the process of writing the script,” she added.
When asked if she has a hand in that aspect of the production, Goldberg replied, “Yes and no.”
“It’s hard to do everything,” she explained. “And I like to think that I can, but I’ve come to the understanding that I can’t do as much stuff simultaneously, as I’d like to.”
The original Sister Act movie was released in 1992. In the film, Goldberg portrays lounge singer Deloris Van Cartier. The character is forced to go into a witness protection program at a convent after she witnesses a murder committed by her gangster boyfriend. In the convent, she goes by the name Sister Mary Clarence, and hijinks quickly ensue.
Goldberg was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for her work in this movie. Check out a trailer for Sister Act in the video below.
Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit came out in 1993, with Goldberg reprising her role. Check out a trailer for that movie below.
Tyler Perry Signs On For Sister Act 3
Fans clamored for a third Sister Act movie for decades. Their wish was finally granted in December of 2020, when it was announced by Tyler Perry that he would be taking part in a third film in the franchises.
“I’m a little annoyed with how long this has taken me,” Perry said at the time. “It’s taking so long — like, I’ve done four movies since we started talking about this.”
Goldberg and Perry will be producing the movie along with Walt Disney Studios.
“When I’m outside producing with… you know, Disney’s a huge, wonderful company, but I really want to get this movie and Whoopi really wants to get this movie,” Perry explained.
Back in 2022, Goldberg talked about how slow the process of getting this movie made has been.
“We gotta shoot it, but it’s happening,” she said, according to Entertainment Tonight. “You’re never fully happy with a script because one of the things you find is you wanna have the space to make an adjustment if you need to.”
“Sometimes what looks right on paper doesn’t come out of your mouth the right way,” she added. “You have to move it around a little bit but I’m very hopeful people will be happy.”

Sister Act is one of the most beloved movies of all time, so it’s exciting that a third film is in the works. We can’t wait to see it when it finally comes out!
