The Star Wars universe is returning to the big screen. The first trailer for The Mandalorian and Grogu is out, starring Pedro Pascal from the Disney+ series, The Mandalorian.

What is The Mandalorian and Grogu About?

Here is the official logline of The Mandalorian and Grogu:

“The evil Empire has fallen, and Imperial warlords remain scattered throughout the galaxy. As the fledgling New Republic works to protect everything the Rebellion fought for, they have enlisted the help of legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin and his young apprentice Grogu.”

In the trailer for the film, Mando and Grogu meet some new characters and fight an assortment of evil robots and sci-fi beasts. Cameos in the short trailer include the alien race of Babu Frik, Zeb Orrelios, and an AT-AT, which slowly falls down the mountainside.

While there isn’t much dialogue in the trailer, it does build anticipation for the return of an iconic pairing.

There are plenty of characters to keep an eye out for, other than Pascal’s masked Mandalorian and his sidekick Grogu (also known as Baby Yoda).

The cast includes Sigourney Weaver as a fighter pilot, Jeremy Allen White as Jabba the Hutt’s son Rotta, and Jonny Coyne as an imperial warlord.

Behind the Scenes

Jon Favreau is producing the film alongside Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy and Filoni, Lucasfilm CCO and former supervising director of the animated series, Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

When is the Premiere?

The Mandalorian and Grogu premieres on May 22nd, 2026. The film was first announced in January 2024.

It will technically kick off the summer 2026 box office on Memorial Day weekend, so we’ll see how the film fares compared to past Star Wars installments released during the same weekend.

Excitement Surrounding the Film

Fans aren’t the only ones excited about The Mandalorian and Grogu movie. When interviewed about the project not long after its reveal, Jon Favreau commented:

“I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created. The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting.”
