Key Pieces of the Trailer

“As a Family”

The most important thing to remember about the new Fantastic Four movie is it’s on an alternate Earth. The Four have turned the world into a utopia, and are celebrated as a squad of heroes that stand as examples to children and adults alike.

However, their support shakes when the Silver Surfer descends on the world, warning them of the impending Galactus. As the Four try to stay united as public faith dwindles, Kirby’s character tells them, “We will fight it together — as a family.”

The main theme throughout this film is the idea of family and staying together, especially when Kirby’s character is revealed to be pregnant with Mister Fantastic (Pascal). Will the family prevail? Time will tell.

Silver Surfer

Julia Garner has joined the cast as the Silver Surfer, and we couldn’t be more excited. A female Silver Surfer has yet to grace the big screen, and Garner’s CGI is on point.

Even though she says a few words in the trailer warning Earth is “marked for death,” she seems powerful. Batting away the Human Torch and speeding through explosions, the Fantastic Four will have their hands full with her.

Galactus

Though Galactus was not shown clearly in the trailer, his brief shot at the end of the trailer electrified fans. We know that Galactus will be given a full, updated appearance that resembles comics, similar to The Thing, but the grand reveal has yet to come.

When Does Fantastic Four: First Steps Come Out?

Fantastic Four: First Steps premieres only in theaters on July 25, 2025. While we wait eagerly to see how the newest rendition of Marvel’s First Family, satiate your MCU fever with the Thunderbolts* film that arrives on May 2, 2025.

Past Renditions of the Fantastic Four

This is not the first time the Fantastic Four has hit the big screen. Two other renditions were made in 2005 and 2015, which do not include an unreleased Roger Corman-produced feature from the 90s.

The 2005 film was directed by Tim Story, starring Chris Evans (Human Torch), Jessica Alba (Susan Storm), Ioan Gruffudd (Mister Fantastic), and Michael Chiklis (The Thing). While critics weren’t super impressed, the film did well enough to garner a 2007 sequel, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.

In 2015, the team was rebooted, directed by Josh Trank. The film starred Miles Teller (Mister Fantastic), Kate Mara (Susan Storm), Michael B. Jordan (Human Torch), and Jamie Bell (The Thing). Unfortunately, this film flopped at the box office and has a 9 percent Rotten Tomatoes critics score.

Perhaps the 2025 version can impress both critics and audiences as it helps lead the MCU into a new age.

The First Step in the Right Direction?

As the trailer comes out for First Steps, it comes during a wave of support for the next installment in the MCU franchise, Thunderbolts*. While not in theaters until May 2nd, fans are feeling a change in the air that hasn’t happened since Avengers: Endgame.

There were some shining moments in the newest phase, such as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but many projects had mixed reviews or fell flat at the box office. Hopefully, this summer can turn the tide of the MCU, especially with Doomsday coming in 2026.
