What is Mercy About?
The first trailer for Mercy premiered at New York Comic Con.
Chris Pratt stars as Detective Raven, the mastermind behind a system where accused felons have 90 minutes to prove their innocence before being sentenced. Getting convicted for killing his wife, Detective Raven faces an AI judge (Rebecca Ferguson).
However, Raven has no idea what happened. He must get help from his partner to help retrace his steps and figure out what truly happened, before the 90 minutes run out.
Cast Members
There are plenty of other notable cast members other than Chris Pratt and Rebecca Ferguson. These include Annabelle Wallis, Kali Reis, Rafi Gavron, Chris Sullivan, Kenneth Choi, Kylie Rogers, and Jeff Pierre.
Behind the Scenes
Timur Bekmambetov directed the film from a script by Marco Van Belle. Producers include Charles Roven, Robert Amidon, Bekmambetov, and Majd Nassif. Khalid Mohtaseb served as the cinematographer.
When interviewed about the movie, Bakmambetov commented about the film being set in a world not far from our own. “We live in a world today where AI is knocking on the door and we don’t have time to understand what happened. AI could be our enemy, our friend or our child. This ticking clock is metaphorical of the time we live in now.”
Charles Roven added upon the AI topic, stating:
“We got a pitch from a writer, Marco [van Belle], who wrote the script. When we first got the script, people were talking about AI, and it wasn’t happening yet. When we started talking about the movie, all of a sudden companies were dealing with AI, and the future wasn’t definitely not far away. The fact that the movie takes place in 2029, I think every day, every week, every month that goes by, there’s something more that makes our movie true.”
When is the Premiere?
Mercy is premiering in theaters on January 26th, 2026, via Amazon MGM Studios. The film was originally scheduled for August 15th, 2025, but was moved to its new date.
