Love is in the air. After landing Series Mania’s Best Actress Award for her role in Hal & Harper, Lili Reinhart turns her sights to a book adaptation.
The rising actress is set to star in and executive produce The Love Hypothesis, an adaptation of Ali Hazelwood’s NYT bestseller, through Amazon MGM Studios.

What is The Love Hypothesis About?
The novel follows Olive Smith, a biology PhD candidate, and Dr. Adam Carlsen, a hotshot professor who is notoriously difficult. The two enter a fake relationship to convince Olive’s friend that Olive is dating, but it quickly becomes something more. The pair’s ideas about love are thrown out the window, and Olive’s heart is suddenly under the microscope.
The Love Hypothesis came out in 2021 through a Penguin Random House imprint and found instant success. The novel spent 10 months on the New York Times bestseller list and was sold across 40 countries. It was later named the Best Romance of the Year by Amazon.
Hazelwood has penned several other novels, including Problematic Summer Romance, Deep End, and Bride.
Ali Hazelwood’s Reaction
The author may be more excited than Reinhart. When interviewed about the film announcement, Hazelwood said:
“Honestly, I still can’t believe this is happening? Elizabeth Cantillon, Claire Scanlon, and Lili Reinhart have all created, produced, or starred in works that I’m absolutely feral about, and I am beyond honored that they’re choosing to bring their talent to this project. … I cannot wait to see the final product they’ll come up with. I hope they have as much fun filming as I had while writing the book.”

Claire Scanlon is directing The Love Hypothesis, based on a script written by Sarah Rothschild. Elizabeth Cantillon is producing, with Reinhart, Catherine Hagedorn, and Hazelwood serving as executive producers.

Lili Reinhart
Reinhart is soon to be on the screen, starring alongside Raiff and Mark Ruffalo in the indie TV series Hal & Harper. Her upcoming projects also include Uta Briesewitz’s American Sweatshop, Brian Swibel’s The Very Best People, and Meredith Alloway’s Forbidden Fruits.
Reinhart is also slated to produce and star in Ali & Anthony Garland’s Fake Wedding, which is currently in development at Amazon MGM.
Claire Scanlon
After directing The People We Hate, Scanlon is back in the world of Amazon MGM Studios. She is known for the Netflix rom-com Set It Up, starring Zoey Deutch and Glen Powell.
More recently, Scanlon has been busy. She directed episodes of Loot and Palm Royale for Apple TV+, Abbot Elementary for ABC, and produced and directed the second season of Unstable for Netflix.

Sarah Rothschild
One of Rothschild’s most successful projects is The Sleepover. Her script was sold in a bidding war to Netflix, later directed by Trish Sie, and it earned her a WGA Award.
She has recently turned in her draft of Splash at Disney and is now writing projects for Paramount and Walden Media.
