What is Caught Stealing About?

Austin Butler plays Hank Thompson, a former baseball player who, according to the official plot release, “unexpectedly finds himself embroiled in a dangerous struggle for survival amidst the criminal underbelly of 1990s New York City, forced to navigate a treacherous underworld he never imagined.”

Adapted From A Book Series

Before it was a film, Charlie Huston wrote the novel Caught Stealing. Huston also wrote the movie and all the other books in the series.

When interviewed about the upcoming film, Aronofsky commented, ” I am excited to be teaming up with my old friends at Sony Pictures to bring Charlie’s adrenaline-soaked roller coaster ride to life. I can’t wait to start working with Austin and my family of NYC filmmakers.”

Behind the Scenes

Behind the camera, the production crew also holds several accolades, including the director. Aronofsky’s most recent film was 2022’s The Whale, which earned several awards. He also directed Mother in 2017, Black Swan in 2010, and Requiem for a Dream in 2000.

Sanford Panitch, the president of Sony Pictures’ Motion Picture Group, when asked about Aronofsky, said, “Darren is one of the most brilliant audiovisual storytellers in the world, and adapting these wonderful books by Charlie Huston for Austin to star was too exciting an opportunity to not be a part of.”

Also included in the production team are Jeremy Dawson, Dylan Golden, and Ari Handel.

Butler’s Recent Appearances

Butler continues his string of strong action appearances. He most recently appeared in the miniseries Masters of the Air on Apple TV+, Dune: Part Two, which won two Oscars at this year’s ceremony, and The Bikeriders.
