Last week, we reported that Alec Baldwin’s movie Rust premiered at the Camerimage Festival in Poland. This came three years after cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was killed on the set of Rust when a gun Baldwin was holding went off. Hutchins was fatally shot and director Joel Souza was injured.
While being interviewed at Italy’s Torino Film Festival on Monday, Baldwin revealed why he has no plans to ever watch the final cut of Rust.
Baldwin Won’t Be Watching Rust
“Only because this is obviously the most difficult thing I’ve ever dealt with in my life,” Baldwin, 66, told Variety. “Beyond the victims themselves, the thing that most pains me is what it did to my wife [Hilaria],” he continued. “My wife has been very, very traumatized from this. There has been a lot of pain.”
“When you are married to somebody and everything was going fairly well and we had seven kids … and the floor falls out. It’s very frightening and very disturbing,” he continued. “And we are trying to get the wind in our sails, to get away from this stuff. Because the film doesn’t stand by itself. It’s always going to be overshadowed by this.”
Many will undoubtedly be disturbed that Baldwin is making this about himself and his family, when a woman lost her life. Indeed, Hutchins’ mother Olga Solovey spoke out last week to slam Baldwin for continuing to try to profit off Rust.
“It was always my hope to meet my daughter in Poland to watch her work come alive on screen,” Solovey told The Hollywood Reporter. “Unfortunately, that was ripped away from me when Alec Baldwin discharged his gun and killed my daughter.”
“Alec Baldwin continues to increase my pain with his refusal to apologize to me and his refusal to take responsibility for her death,” she added. “Instead, he seeks to unjustly profit from his killing of my daughter. That is the reason why I refuse to attend the festival for the promotion of Rust, especially now when there is still no justice for my daughter.”

Charges Against Baldwin Dropped
Baldwin was initially charged with involuntary manslaughter over the death of Hutchins, 42. However, the case was dismissed days into his trial after a last-minute hearing regarding how police and prosecutors treated a handful of bullets. The judge dismissed the charges against Baldwin without prejudice, meaning he can’t be charged again.
Meanwhile, Rust armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed is currently serving out an 18-month prison sentence after being convicted of involuntary manslaughter. Baldwin had been facing that same sentence if he had been convicted as well.

Baldwin Is ‘Happy The Film Got Completed’
Despite how Hutchins’ mother feels, Baldwin still said last night that he is “happy the film got completed” after production on Rust resumed last year.
“We arrived to the reshoot and it was a better film in a lot of of ways,” he said. “Other than Halyna. But for now, I want all things ‘Rust’ to just leave my windshield, so I can go and do other things and be a father to my children.”
Baldwin went on to express his hope that Rust will get a U.S. release. He claims he wants this to happen so that the movie can “make its money back for its investors.”
Only time will tell if Baldwin will get his wish with this. Regardless, it seems glaringly apparent where his priorities lie.
