Now that spring is in full swing, homeowners are heading outside to do yard work. But, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is asking us to be on the lookout for something special that could save the hummingbird population.

The agency wants us to keep our eyes peeled for hummingbird nests when we are trimming and pruning trees. These magnificent little creatures do a great job of camouflaging their nests. This helps protect them from predators but can make it hard for humans to spot them.

Hummingbird eggs are tiny, about the size of jelly beans! Please remember to carefully check for nests before you trim…

The nests are incredibly light because they are made from material like spider webs and moss! They are little works of art. The nests are small, not much bigger than a fingernail as you can see in the pictures below.

One man takes such good care of hummingbirds in his yard that they have become accustomed to him. In the amazing video below, they drink from a pop cap that is being held in his mouth. They completely trust him!

These amazing birds are not only fascinating to watch, but they also help out with pollination. They are great pollinators for a variety of flowers, shrubs and trees, so keep your eyes peeled for their adorable nests!
