The liberal Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled that a football coach isn’t allowed to pray on the field.
Coach Joe Kennedy was suspended by Bremerton School District because he knelt and prayed midfield after football games. His prayer was silent, but the school district and the Ninth Circuit felt it warranted his firing.
The Ninth Circuit stated that Kennedy wasn’t afforded First Amendment protections because he was a public employee. “When Kennedy kneeled and prayed on the fifty-yard line immediately after games while in view of students and parents, he spoke as a public employee, not as a private citizen, and his speech, therefore, was constitutionally unprotected,” the opinion stated.

Kennedy was suspended because of his praying in 2015 and he was not rehired. He was ordered not to bend his head or kneel or make actions that could be construed as praying.
The next stop for Coach Kennedy might be the Supreme Court. This is an important fight for him. He will not be bullied into silence. Kennedy, who is a veteran, spoke about why he prays in the video below.
It is unimaginable that in the United States of America football players can take a knee to protest the National Anthem but a coach can’t silently pray. This is an assault on the First Amendment.
