Parenting can be rough. We have to teach our kids how to behave properly and sometimes that causes hurt feelings for youngsters. These are important lessons that must be taught even when tears are being shed.
Helping kids work through their feelings can be a frustrating exercise. It can be hard to be calm when your kid is losing it, but one dad’s reaction is going viral and it will melt your heart!
Randy Gaines had been joking with his daughter all day. She didn’t like it much and was rather upset. He calmed her down and helped her realize how to handle these situations. “You don’t always have to be happy, you don’t always have to be silly or funny, you don’t have to be anything,” he told her. “The important thing is—whenever you’re feeling that way—to not just stay there all the time. You want to accept it, you want to honor it, you want to acknowledge it, and let it go.”

Randy’s wife submitted the story and video to Love What Matters. She wanted to share her husband’s loving words with other parents. She wrote:
“I think I just watched and listened to one of the most powerful conversations in my life…
This man right here. His ability to connect, and to speak from the heart Open & honestly…
I fell in love with him before we had our girls, but moments like this make me fall even more in love with him…
We connect on this level; and my heart explodes when he connects to his girls like this… ?
No yelling. No screaming.
Talking. Discussing emotions and why we have such feelings. HEALTHY outlets (walking, running, punching a pillow, etc)…
Getting down to the root of the problem. Setting boundaries, because feelings were upset. RESPECTING boundaries, to ensure it doesn’t occur again…
Parenting which neither of us had growing up. Listening ears as little ones speak. Knowing you are still loved no matter what. Knowing you are enough, always…
Our goals as parents are to ensure they do not endure what we did as children…
I am so blessed, and so thankful to have this man as my other half. Our girls are blessed to have him as their father. Thank you Randy Gaines for being you!”
Another dad recently had a video go viral that also demonstrated a parenting win. When his daughter was acting up at Walmart, he took her outside and explained that is not appropriate and won’t be tolerated. Click here to watch that!
