Despite the continuous controversy that surrounds Colleen Hoover, another one of her novels is getting a chance on the big screen. Shockingly, it’s been confirmed that Anna Hathaway will star in Verity, the movie adaptation of the psychological romance thriller.

The author of It Ends With Us just celebrated her latest movie adaptation in theaters, which was released on August 9th, 2024. But even with the Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni issues still going strong, Colleen Hoover has focused on the next chapter of her life.

Despite some of her novels being best-sellers, readers have strong opinions on her writing style. Many complain about the content that she writes about and its negative impact on young women. Many readers complain that “Hoover’s books normalize abuse.”

Her subject matter is heavy, while her writing style is light. The contrast can be weird for readers and almost encourages the darker, traumatic topics. Not only that but many are blindsided by the content that she writes about, with very little content warning.

Now that Anne Hathaway will star in Verity, fans are torn. Many are excited to see Hathaway playing that role and are excited to watch the movie despite their dislike for Hoover. Some are thrilled to see their favorite book come to life on screen.

However, several others are shocked to see Hathaway “stoop to these levels.” Hathaway fans are showing their love for the actress by encouraging her to drop the role and focus on more important projects, like Princess Diaries 3.

But what is Verity even about to make it the topic of conversation right now? The thriller is one of Hoover’s best-sellers, as it sold over one million copies just in 2023 alone. The plot follows Lowen Ashleigh, a writer in need of work who is contacted by Jeremy Crawford. Jeremy’s wife is bestselling author Verity Crawford, and due to a mysterious accident, she is unable to finish her successful book series. Jeremy asks Lowen to complete the series for her, and while working on it, she discovers a manuscript that raises questions regarding Verity’s psychological well-being.

While Anne Hathaway will star in Verity as the titular character, a few others have also joined her in the casting. Dakota Johnson will play Lowen and Josh Hartnett is playing Verity’s husband, Jeremy.
