The upcoming psychological drama and thriller follows a college professor, played by Julia Roberts, who gets caught in the middle of a campus scandal after her student, played by Ayo Edebiri, accuses one of her colleagues, played by Andrew Garfield, of “crossing the lines”.

The trailer has just been released by Amazon MGM Studios, which opens with Garfield’s character, Hank, speaking at a party, talking about how the younger generation makes people afraid to say the wrong thing. The scene then transitions to Robert’s role, Alma. Julia Roberts’ role is close to Garfield’s, but her perception of his changes when star student, Maggie, reveals something sinister about Hank.

The movie speaks about timely themes, touching on subjects related to the #MeToo movement, which offered a space for victims of sexual abuse to come forward.

Luca Guadagnino spoke about the upcoming movie, saying, “It’s about what happens in the milieu of academia between younger and older people and the idea of consent. I can tell you that it’s very loaded. I can tell you that the movie is a very provocative, but not in a stupid way, but I would say in a very articulate way.”

Guadagnino also adds that this is Robert’s “best performance” of her career, and also how he enjoyed working with Edebiri. “Ayo is a movie star in the real sense of bigness, and cinema, and excitement. She has a commitment towards performance that you rarely find now. She absolutely commands your gaze. She’s funny and extremely beautiful 0 and that is a very rare combination.”

Expect After the Hunt to be released in theaters in New York and Los Angeles on October 10, and will be nationwide on October 17.
