Central Italy was rocked by three strong earthquakes that came two hours apart on Wednesday. The first earthquake hit the village of Castelsantangelo sul Nera registering as a magnitude 5.4 while the second stronger earthquake hit near the city of Visso and measured as a magnitude 6.1. The third quake registered as magnitude 4.9.

The quakes are aftershocks of a devastating earthquake that rocked the area in August killing 300 people.

Marco Rinaldi, the mayor of Ussita, described the destruction, “It was a very strong earthquake, apocalyptic. People are screaming on the street and now we are without lights.” He concluded, “Many houses have collapsed. Our town is finished.”

Fortunately, no one died from these earthquakes, but several people sustained minor injuries.
