The Hollywood star Woody Harrelson was in a motorcycle accident on Monday on his way to an interview with Conan O’Brien. Afterwards, he was rescued by his former Cheers co-star Ted Danson, and he still made it to the interview!
Harrelson’s Motorcycle Accident
While appearing on Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend, Harrelson revealed that he was late to the interview because he’d been in a motorcycle accident minutes before.
“I did go over the handlebars. Embarrassingly, I was passing this Tesla on the left that I thought was moving a little slow but I didn’t realize he was moving slow because he’s taking a left,” Harrelson, 62, said as he explained why he was late.
“I was wearing a helmet, yes. It actually did help me because I did hit my head,” he later added. “I always thought I’d be OK; I just felt like there was some pain involved. I felt the pain, but I never thought I’d be killed or anything or maimed.”
Though Harrelson prefers to use a motorcycle to get around, he admitted that “today it proved to not be very fast.”
“We lost some time while people were figuring out, ‘Are you alive?'” O’Brien chimed in to add.

Danson Comes To The Rescue
When O’Brien pointed out that Harrelson’s hand was wrapped up like a cartoon character’s would be, Danson revealed that he’s the person who stopped to help.
“That’s ’cause I wrapped it,” confirmed Danson, 76. “I wrapped it and I thought it looked funnier that way.”
A visibly shocked O’Brien exclaimed, “Ted Danson is the one that helps clean the wound and wrap you? Why haven’t we called a real doctor!”
Harrelson then recalled Danson bandaging him up.
“We’re in the bathroom and I’m like, ‘You played a doctor, right?'” he recounted. “And he says, ‘Yeah, I also played a lawyer, so we could sue the guy.’ I said, ‘Well, I think it’s gonna have to be a lawyer for the defense cause it was my fault.”
All jokes aside, Danson admitted that seeing Harrelson get in this accident made him “sad” because “he could’ve been hurt very badly.” Harrelson himself admitted that he may reassess his life a bit after this incident.
“Maybe I should just slow down in life, just take it a little easy,” he acknowledged.

Harrelson And Danson’s History
Harrelson and Danson became close friends while starring on the sitcom Cheers, which ran from 1982 until 1993. They were being interviewed by O’Brien to promote their new podcast Where Everybody Knows Your Name. This podcast will see them reconnect over thirty years after the end of Cheers, both with each other and celebrity guests who they’ve met along the way.
Cheers starred Danson as Sam Malone in all 269 episodes of the sitcom. During that time, he won two Emmy Awards and two Golden Globes for his work on the show.
Harrelson joined Cheers as Woody Boyd in 1985. He won one Emmy during his time on the show, which made him a household name. Since Cheers ended, Harrelson has been nominated for three Oscars.
While Harrelson and Danson had some fun with this after the fact, the motorcycle accident serves as a reminder of just how dangerous that mode of transportation can be. Thank goodness that Harrelson was wearing a helmet, and here’s hoping he can stay safer in the future!
