The latest season of Euphoria has aired, marking the conclusion of the hit HBO series created by Sam Levinson. It’s safe to say that the season was widely different than the first two seasons, with Cassie playing a big role. And with her role, Sydney Sweeney faced immense backlash over her character’s storyline, but thanks to a recent interview, Sweeney reveals her thoughts on Euphoria’s latest season.

In the last season of Euphoria, we see Cassie start her OnlyFans journey while she’s married to Jacob Elordi’s Nate, and fans had some questions and concerns about the storyline.
Recently, Megyn Kelly blasted Sweeney for her storyline, as Cassie is seen in one episode sexualizing infancy because “She’s in a baby’s outfit. She’s sucking on a binky pacifier. And her legs are completely spread,” Kelly said during an episode of The Megyn Kelly Show.
Megyn Kelly slams Euphoria creator Sam Levinson's "sexualizing infancy" with Sydney Sweeney's character.

Thanks to an interview with Vanity Fair published Tuesday, June 9th, we explore Sweeney’s thoughts.
“From the very beginning, you can see that Cassie has this need to be loved,” she says, saying her character attracts attention as a model on the subscription-based site after tying the knot with Nate. “She has a need to be validated by other people. She doesn’t know how to love herself unless someone else loves her.”
And as for Cassie’s decision to join the site, Sweeney says she thinks her character “was more excited by the idea of all these people loving her and knowing who she is and feeling like her world isn’t small.”
Sweeney also said that Levinson discussed her nude scenes with her prior to filming the third season, saying, “He sent me all the scripts, and it already had all of Cassie’s scenes in it, the OnlyFans scenes, and he called me afterwards, and he was talking about it, and we talked through it all.”
“He asked me how I felt about it, and I told him, ‘Look, I’m playing a character,” she explained.
“Do I agree with all of Cassie’s decisions? Would I personally make these choices? No, of course not.”

The 28-year-old continues, saying, “But I’m an actor and that’s my job, and this is Cassie’s life, and to be able to do her justice and play her how she’s to be played is to bring Sam’s vision to life and to play Cassie in the most vulnerable and insane way possible.”
Throughout the season, Sweeney received immense backlash for her Cassie role, with many commenting that she isn’t acting, that this is who Sweeney actually is. When asked which character in her life that she’s played is most like her, Sweeney insisted most people “have no clue” who she “actually” is.
“That’s why I love acting,” she said to Vanity Fair. “The whole point is being able to play all these different characters. It wouldn’t be fun playing myself.”
Sweeney has been known to be the center of controversies, as she was slammed for her American Eagle ad back in 2025 and was recently bashed for her new lingerie line.
