Megyn Kelly is speaking out to slam Sydney Sweeney for a “disgusting” scene she took part in during the season three premiere of her HBO Max show Euphoria, which aired on Sunday night.
Kelly Blasts Sydney Sweeney
Kelly, 55, took issue with a viral image that showed Sweeney’s character of Cassie creating content for her OnlyFans account. In the photo, Sweeney, 28, appears to be dressed as a baby, spreading her legs as she poses. This didn’t sit well with Kelly, who accused Sweeney of “sexualizing intimacy.”
“She’s in a baby’s outfit. She’s sucking on a binky pacifier. And her legs are completely spread,” Kelly lamented on Tuesday’s episode of The Megyn Kelly Show.
“I think this is another example, guys, of Hollywood not understanding at all where the line is and how most normal people are going to recoil, even Sydney Sweeney fans, in response to what’s essentially the sexualization of a child, of a baby,” the former Fox News host continued.
Not stopping there, Kelly went on to say that the scene “seems to be wanting to bring down your defenses on the most disgusting crime imaginable on Earth.”
As for Sweeney herself, Kelly stated, “I can’t believe she agreed to this.”
Kelly Doubles Down
Kelly then took issue with another scene in which Sweeney’s character of Cassie is “dressed as a dog being led around on a leash.”
While Kelly was openly shocked that Sweeney would take part in these scenes, she placed much of the blame on Euphoria creator Sam Levinson. Kelly ripped into him, saying that he is a “sick jerk” for writing these overly sexualized scenes for Sweeney.
Euphoria has long been known for its excessive nudity. Kelly accused Levinson of “injecting nudity” into scenes just so he can get actresses to take their clothes off. She believes that the actresses end up doing it because they are desperate to be stars. According to Kelly, Levinson is “at a minimum a jerk, and more than likely – a problem.”
Levinson, however, has defended the scenes in a brief statement.
“What we wanted to always find is the other layer of absurdity that we’re able to tie into it so that we’re not too inside of her fantasy or illusion,” Levinson told The Hollywood Reporter. “The gag is to jump out, to break the wall.”
Sweeney Defends Racy Scenes
Sweeney herself has also defended the racy scenes.
“She will do anything and at all costs to be famous this season. And she makes a lot of very wild, interesting choices,” Sweeney told Entertainment Tonight of Cassie last week. “In true Cassie fashion! She will not disappoint, that’s for sure.”
Sweeney went on to say that she’s loved working on Euphoria so much that she would be devastated if this is its final season.
“Cassie has been such a big part of my life,” she confessed. “So I think it’s a very bittersweet moment, for sure.”
We can’t help but agree with Kelly that “sexualizing infancy” is something that should never be tolerated in any way. Given all of the deviance that has come to light from Hollywood in recent years, perhaps Sweeney and Levinson should have thought twice about this one. In the end, it’s safe to say that we won’t be checking out Euphoria anytime soon.
