The media mogul Oprah Winfrey, 70, was rushed to the hospital this week with a stomach issue that is said to be very serious.

This was revealed by Oprah’s longtime best friend Gayle King on CBS Mornings on Tuesday.

King Reveals Graphic Details About Oprah’s Illness

“She had some kind of stomach thing — stomach flu — where stuff was coming out of both ends. I won’t get too graphic,” said King. “But needless to say, she ended up in the hospital, dehydration, she had an IV. So it was a very serious thing.”

“She will be okay,” she added. “I hope she’s not mad at me for sharing that detail.”

Hours later, Oprah issued a statement on Instagram alleging that she is recovering.

“Ms. Winfrey is recovering following a stomach virus and received an IV due to dehydration at the recommendation of her doctor,” the statement read. “She is resting and feeling better every day.”

Oprah Admits To Using Weight Loss Drugs

Daily Mail reported that this comes five months after Oprah admitted to using a weight loss drug that is either Ozempic or something similar to it.

“I had an awareness of medications, but felt I had to prove I had the willpower to do it,” she said at the time. “I now no longer feel that way.”

“Obesity is a disease,” she continued, according to People Magazine. “It’s not about willpower — it’s about the brain.”

After looking into weight loss drugs, Oprah said that she “released my own shame about it.”

“I now use it as I feel I need it, as a tool to manage not yo-yoing,” she said.

Side effects of weight loss drugs like Ozempic can include stomach pain, vomiting and diarrhea. Other weight loss drugs that are similar to Ozempic are Wegovy and Mounjaro. Oprah has refused to reveal the specific weight loss drug that she uses.

Oprah Gushes Over Weight Loss Drugs

Weight is something that Oprah has openly struggled with for decades. She said that she started using the mysterious weight loss drug before Thanksgiving “because I knew I was going to have two solid weeks of eating.”

“Instead of gaining eight pounds like I did last year, I gained half a pound . . . It quiets the food noise,” she claimed.

Oprah sees her weight loss drug as more than just a tool to hit her goal weight.

“It was a second shot for me to live a more vital and vibrant life,” she said.

While it’s unknown if Oprah’s “very serious” stomach issue is related to the weight loss drug that she is taking, it wouldn’t be surprising if this ends up being the case.

It’s important to remember that these weight loss drugs are so new that their long-term effects are not completely known at this time. A study published last October by The Journal of the American Medical Association found that people who use Ozempic or Wegovy may be at an increased risk of severe stomach problems.

Given how may people look up to Oprah and follow her weight loss advice, we can only hope that she’s honest with the public if this stomach problem stemmed from whatever drug she’s taking.
