Mark Wahlberg managed to rise from humble beginnings in Boston, Massachusetts to become one of the most A-list stars in Hollywood. In a new interview, Wahlberg is speaking out to credit all of his Hollywood success to his strong Christian faith.
Wahlberg Credits His Faith With His Success
“My faith, my faith and my family and just finding good balance,” Wahlberg, 53, told Fox News. “But I have to attribute all my success to my faith.”
Wahlberg said this at the opening of his new restaurant Flecha. A devout Catholic, Wahlberg had Diocese of Orange Christ Cathedral Bishop Kevin W. Vann bless the restaurant with some holy water and a prayer.
Wahlberg has long been open about his devout Christian faith. Last year, he said that his faith is “just the most important aspect of my life.”
“It’s the most important thing,” he explained. “It’s afforded me all the things that I’ve been able to accomplish in my life – my faith, my discipline.”
Wahlberg Making Faith-Based, Family-Friendly Films
Wahlberg’s faith has inspired him to make movies like Father Stu, in which he played a Catholic priest who is dealing with a progressive muscular disorder. Check out a trailer for that movie below.

Wahlberg has also been focused on making family-friendly films like The Family Plan and Arthur the King.
“I’ve always said that I hope God is a movie fan,” Wahlberg said last year. “I mean, I’ve made some movies, whether it be ‘Boogie Nights’ or even ‘Ted’ where, you know, they could be a bit questionable.”
“But I also don’t want to compromise my artistic integrity,” he continued, adding that “as a parent and as a husband, those things definitely weigh into my decision-making. But I do like taking chances and risks.”
Wahlberg is determined to raise his four children to have similar values to his own. He and his wife Rhea Durham are parents to: Ella, 20, Michael, 18, Brendan, 15, and Grace, 14. Wahlberg plans to encourage them in whatever they want to do with their lives, as long as they put in the effort.
“I just want them to go out there and work hard,” he explained. “If you work hard, there isn’t anything you can’t accomplish. I try to encourage people, despite where they come from, the obstacles they have to overcome, there isn’t anything you can’t accomplish if you’re willing to do the work.”

Wahlberg’s Humble Beginnings
Wahlberg certainly knows a thing or two about hard work. He was born on June 5, 1971 in the poor working class Boston neighborhood of Dorchester. Wahlberg was born to a delivery driver father and a nurse’s aide mother. He was the youngest of their nine children.
Despite coming from this humble background, Wahlberg managed to work his way to the top of Hollywood. He’s been nominated for two Oscars, and these days, he has an estimated net worth of $400 million. Find out more about his rise to fame in the video below.
It’s rare to have a celebrity in Hollywood these days who is as unafraid to talk about their Christian faith as Wahlberg. God bless Wahlberg for crediting his faith with his success!
