The Hollywood star Mark Wahlberg, who is the father of four children, celebrated Father’s Day on Sunday in quite an unusual way. Instead of honoring all the dads out there, Wahlberg decided to honor the moms!
Wahlberg Honors Mothers
Wahlberg and his wife Rhea Dunham are parents to daughters Ella, 20, and Grace, 14, and sons Michael, 18, and Brendan, 15. Even on Father’s Day, Wahlberg made a point of paying tribute to the mother of his children.
“I’m gonna celebrate the memory of my dad,” Wahlberg, 53, told Fox News. “I’m gonna salute all the other dads, and then we’re gonna go right back and give all the credit to all the moms, because we are not s–t without them. It’s all about the moms.”
“We get one day,” he said of dads. “Every other day should be Mother’s Day.”
Wahlberg has long been open about just how important it is to him to be a good father.
“If I succeed as a businessman but fail as a father, then it’s all been for nothing,” he said back in 2012. “That’s by far the most important role that I’ll ever play in my life — being a parent and being a husband.”

Wahlberg’s Hopes For His Kids
Earlier this month, Wahlberg opened up about what his hopes are for his children.
“I just want them to figure out what it is they want to do and then pursue it with all, with everything that they have, to be passionate about it and put in the work, and the best thing I can do is be an example and show them how hard I’m willing to work to be successful and to make my dreams come true,” he said.
Hard work is something that Wahlberg hopes he’s instilled in each of his children.
“I just want them to go out there and work hard,” he explained. “If you work hard, there isn’t anything you can’t accomplish. I try to encourage people, despite where they come from, the obstacles they have to overcome, there isn’t anything you can’t accomplish if you’re willing to do the work.”

Wahlberg’s Parents
Wahlberg was very close to his own father Donald Wahlberg Sr., a Korean war veteran who sadly died back in 2008.
“Even before I was in school, I was spending time with my dad,” Wahlberg told Esquire in 2014. “I would go to work with him when he drove his truck and delivered to all the schools. You know, both my parents worked very hard to put food on the table, so we didn’t get the kind of time that I would have liked with him, especially when they got divorced.”
Wahlberg was the youngest of nine children, so putting food on the table wasn’t always easy for his parents. He also had a close relationship with his mother Alma, who died in 2021.
“She was as tough as nails,” he told Fatherly months after her death. “If we did something wrong, we were going to pay the price for it, the consequences for it.”
Wahlberg’s latest comments on parenting show the world once again what a class act he really is. If only there were more stars in Hollywood like him!
