The Emmy Award actress recently skipped Today Show after getting slammed from her recent post to husband.

Kristen Bell faces backlash for an anniversary post she shared, honoring her 12th wedding anniversary to husband Dax Shepard. However, the post was immediately slammed for her tonedeaf and insensitive caption that seemed to downplay domestic violence.

The Instagram caption read: “Happy 12th wedding anniversary to the man who once said to me: ‘I would never kill you. A lot of men have killed their wives at a certain point. Even though I’m heavily incentiviezed to kill you, I never would.'” The post was shared along side a photo of her and Shepard embacing.

Of course, criticism was siwft, with fans commenting about her being “tone deaf” and “insenstivie” for making light of violence that is common in relationships. Not only that, but the post was shared during Domestic Violence Awareness month, which many Instagram users commented on.

The post was not only shockingly offensive, but commentors have also brought up how odd the comment really is. While Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard have been known to have a light-hearted, funny relationship with several inside jokes, the full quote is very worrying to hear.

But even though fans have expressed their concern and annoyance with the quote, stars and friends have simply brushed it off by saying “This is LOVE,” from Brooklyn Nine-Nine alum Terry Crews. And Comedian Howie Mandel quipped of Shepard’s love declaration, “He should write for Hallmark.”

Along with their jokes, Bell and Shepard have been known to cause uprise on the internet. Earlier this year, Bell shared a NSFW post of her doing nude yoga to celebrate the news of her Nobody Wants This Emmy nomination. But of course, even while fans were upset, Bell seemed unbothered.

As of right now, representatives for Bell and Shepard have not spoken about the comment. But from past situations, it’s unlikely the couple will be bothered by the upset they’ve caused.

Domestic violence is unfortunately common in the world. According the the National Domestic Violence Hotline, more than 12 million people per year suffer from intimate partner violence. An average of 24 people per minute are victims of violence caused by intimate partners.

This is a staggering high number to joke about. While couples are allowed their jokes, there has to be a level of consideration and descretion when the jokes just aren’t funny.
