Johnny Depp is heading back to Hollywood! After a few quiet years away from the big screen, the 62-year-old is now leading Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol. That’s right, Johnny Depp will star as Scrooge in the new spin on Charles Dickens’ classic 1843 novella.

The project is by Paramount Pictures and will also star Andrea Riseborough. The film will be directed by Ti West, best known for his trilogy of horror movies starring Mia Goth: X, Pearl, and Maxxxine. The screenplay will be written by Nathaniel Halpern, known for creating Prime’s sci-fi series, Tales from the Loop.

The logline for the film says it’s “A thrilling ghost story set in Dickens’ London, following one man’s supernatural journey to face his past, present, and future and fight for a second chance.”

The plan is for the movie to be released on November 13, 2026, over a year out for fans who want to see the iconic star back in action.

This will be Depp’s first film by a major American studio since his controversial legal battle with ex-wife Amber Heard, which ended in 2022 after a jury found that Heard had defamed Depp in a 2018 Washington Post op-ed that claimed he abused her. After Heard appealed that verdict, the two actors settled the case later that year.

The trial was watched by millions, with so many fans coming to show their support and love for him. Since the trial concluded, Depp has been keeping it low, picking up smaller indie films and other small projects.

These projects include Maïwenn’s 2023 French-language historical drama Jeanne du Barry and his upcoming directorial project Modì, Three Days on the Wing of Madness, starring Al Pacino. The latter project will be released in theaters on November 7.

Depp is also starring in Lionsgate’s Day Drinker, from director Marc Webb. The film marks Depp’s fourth collaboration with Penélope Cruz. No release date has been announced for the project.

For fans who have missed the legend, it’s exciting to see that he’s getting back into Hollywood. While the wait is long, it will be well worth it.
