The country music star Zach Bryan was just “forced” to cancel a concert for the first time. Indeed, he had to cancel his Tulsa, Oklahoma concert at H.A. Chapman Stadium on Friday due to severe weather conditions.

Bryan Cancels Concert

“I am being forced by my team to cancel the show tonight due to the threat of extreme and dangerous weather,” Bryan, 30, wrote on Instagram. “I’ve never canceled a show in my life but I unfortunately don’t have a choice in the matter.”

Bryan went on to assure his fans that refunds for ticket purchases would be issued automatically. He also said that Saturday’s show, which was scheduled for the same venue in Tulsa, was “still set to proceed as planned.”

“5 years of touring I’ve never cancelled a headlining show,” Bryan added in the caption of his post. “I pissed off plenty people this morning trying to ‘play anyways.'”

“If I had ANY say in this, things would be different,” he continued. “I apologize and I love all of ya.”

Bryan, who is a native of Oklahoma himself, also included a second slide that was a text exchange with someone who explained just how bad the predicted weather conditions were.

“I know you’re gonna hate me for this, but we have no choice but to cancel the show,” the person wrote in the text. “I just had a meeting with the police, school, and the meteorologists. And the consensus is that we would be putting people’s safety at risk by trying to put on the show.”

The person then warned of the weather forecast. It included wind gusts in excess of 60 mph, hail, and intense lightning.

This did not sit well with Bryan, who simply replied, “Are you kidding?”

Fans Respond

Many fans were not happy about Bryan canceling his concert.

“What is most disappointing is that you didn’t notify ticket holders until 2 pm that show was cancelled despite no change in weather forecast,” one disgruntled fan commented. “Too late for those that drove 4 hours for the show and paid for hotel.”

“Very disappointing that a hometown show is being cancelled vs postponed or rescheduled,” another fuming fan wrote. “I get you can’t please everyone but [expletive] this is the 3rd disappointing show in a row. Went last year on the last day in Tulsa and excused it cause you could tell you weren’t well, drove to LSU last weekend for our kids to join and the set list was cut short (and the crowd sucked) and now what we hoped would be the redemption show is just straight up canceled. Man.”

Bryan’s fellow country music star Tyler Childers, however, agreed with the decision to cancel.

“Better safe then sorry brother,” he wrote.

Others also thought that Bryan made the right call.

“Oklahoma weather is no joke,” one fan commented. “I’m sure it’s a tough pill to swallow for everyone, but Mother Nature calls the shots here. Be safe.”

“Your fans safety comes before your ego,” another fan wrote. A third added, “Can you imagine not canceling and that amount of people with no place to go when there’s a tornado rolling through. You just literally never know what could happen.”

Bryan is one of the biggest names in country music right now, so he was sure to attract tons of fans to this concert. In the end, we can’t help but agree that he made the right decision here, as “better safe than sorry” is the only way to go.

God bless you, Luke Bryan!
