The legendary former Star Trek star William Shatner was rushed to the hospital on Wednesday afternoon after suffering a “medical emergency.”
Shatner’s ‘Medical Emergency’
Shatner, 94, was rushed to the hospital via ambulance due to a medical incident involving his blood sugar. He was reportedly at his home in Los Angeles, California at the time of the medical emergency.
Insiders told TMZ that Shatner was able to call 911 himself when the incident occurred. The sources added that Shatner is now “resting comfortably” and doing “good.”
“He’s fine,” Shatner’s longtime agent Harry Gold told reporters.
Early Thursday morning, Shatner himself took to social media to poke some fun at his situation.
“I over indulged,” Shatner wrote on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.
“I thank you all for caring but I’m perfectly fine,” he added. “I keep telling you all: don’t trust tabloids or AI!”
Shatner’s Previous Health Scares
This comes one year after Shatner shocked his fans by revealing that he’s a cancer survivor. Indeed, he was previously diagnosed with stage four melanoma.
Shatner revealed that he privately had an operation before quietly undergoing immunotherapy to treat the condition. However, he didn’t reveal exactly when this happened.
Shatner suffered another health scare in 2016, when he received a prostate cancer diagnosis. Thankfully, this diagnosis turned out to be a false alarm. The mistaken diagnosis came in because drastic spike in his levels of PSA (prostate-specific antigen), a protein produced by the gland.
“That was really scary,” Shatner admitted. “I was told by a doctor I had a terminal disease. That I was going to die.”
Shatner believes that his elevated levels of PSA were due to testosterone supplements that he was taking at the time. Needless to say, he has since stopped using these supplements.
Shatner’s Secrets To Staying Youthful
After bouncing back from these experiences, Shatner shared his advice for staying youthful. He did so while celebrating his 93rd birthday last year.
“Just staying engaged in life, to stay curious. But the luck has a lot to do with it in your health,” Shatner told People Magazine at the time. “Your life’s energy, the soul energy of your body is a product of health. If you’re sick, you can’t be energetic. You’re dying. So my luck has been, I’ve been healthy all my life.”
Shatner has always humbly attributed much of his longevity to luck.
“My life has been so lucky — I’ve been so fortunate in terms of health, which is really the basis of everything,” Shatner told NBC News in 2018. “Your health and your energy is partially your doing, but partially accidental — genetic and accidental.”
In his memoir “Live Long and…: What I Learned Along the Way,” Shatner revealed his number one secret to longevity.
“Don’t die,” Shatner wrote. “That’s it; that’s the secret. Simply keep living and try not to slow down.”
We can’t argue with that!
