Carol Burnett is currently starring in season two of the Apple TV series Palm Royale. Indeed, new episodes drop every Wednesday.
Kristen Wiig, who plays character Maxine Dellacorte-Simmons in Palm Royale, is speaking out this week to gush over Burnett. In fact, she says that it’s “hard to put into words” what it means to get to work with Burnett on this show.
Wiig Praises Burnett
“We genuinely love each other,” Wiig, 52, told People Magazine of working with Burnett, 92. “I think when you have that ease with a person in real life, you’re able to make bigger creative choices, too. I think one sort of begets the other.”
“Working together has also brought us closer outside of work,” she added. “So it’s just been a dream come true for me.”
Burnett has also loved working with her Palm Royale co-stars.
“I can’t even say it was work,” Burnett gushed. “I just had the best time. And everybody in the cast was a family. I know so many television shows have said, ‘Oh, it was a family,’ but this definitely is one. There wasn’t a diva in the bunch at all. It was just a joy to go to work. We just get in the sandbox and play.”
Burnett Is A Fan Of Wiig’s
Burnett went on to say that she’s been a fan of Wiig’s ever since she saw her on Saturday Night Live! years ago. Wiig was a cast-member on the NBC sketch comedy series from 2005 until 2012.
“The first time I saw Kristen was on Saturday Night Live!,” Burnett recalled. “And I knew in my heart — I thought, ‘Someday I’m going to be able to play with her.’”
Wiig could not be more grateful that she finally got the chance to “play” with Burnett.
“She shows up every day in a great mood, talking to everyone,” Wiig said of Burnett. “Just seeing the crew react to her, and all of us wanting to find her — not in a creepy way, but between scenes being like, ‘Where’s Carol sitting?’ because you just want to spend time with her. She has the best stories.”
“After hour 12, you need those little reminders sometimes of how lucky we are,” she continued. “We have a great job, and great people surrounding us. You get reminded of it, that we’re very grateful.”

Palm Royale Season Two
Season two of Palm Royale is full of plot twists. This made filming it even more fun for Burnett, Wiig, and the rest of the cast.
“Just being back with everybody was the best part,” Wiig stated. “And when we got the scripts, we were like, ‘So much happens.’ Just getting to do all the fun stuff that was written for us, and just being together — that’s what I looked forward to.”
As for what fans will be seeing Burnett’s character of Norma do this season, she teased that she might just do a backflip.
“She really stretched,” Wiig joked with a laugh. “Norma really is full of secrets.”
If you love Burnett as much as we do, be sure to check out Palm Royale on Apple TV. You won’t be disappointed!
