Whoopi Goldberg has an estimated net worth of $30 million. Despite this, she wants the world to know that she identifies with the working class. Unfortunately for Goldberg, however, this is already blowing up in her face.

Goldberg Claims To ‘Work For A Living’

Goldberg, who turns 69 today, revealed on Tuesday’s episode of The View that she is only still on the ABC talk show because she “needs the money.”

“I appreciate that people are having a hard time. Me, too. I work for a living,” Goldberg said.

Turning to the audience, Goldberg added, “If I had all the money in the world, I would not be here, okay? So, I’m a working person, you know?”

“My kid has to feed her family,” she continued. “My great-granddaughter has to be fed by her family. I know it’s hard out there.”

Goldberg has been on The View since 2007. Aside from Joy Behar, who has been with the show since it premiered back in 1997, Goldberg has been on The View the longest.

Fans Fire Back

Unfortunately for Goldberg, however, social media users aren’t having any of her money complaints.

“So, Whoopi Goldberg who has a mansion in NJ, a home in NY, home in Sardinia, a net worth of over $60 million and makes 8 million a year wishes she could retire but she’s struggling, like so many Americans,” one social media user commented. “Whoopi is also disconnected from reality.”

“This is weird. I respect Whoopi Goldberg as an actress and because of her background. But she is working because she needs the money?” another social media user added. “She is paid several million $$$ annually to host the View and Forbes estimates her net worth at $60 million.”

“Whoopi Goldberg says she’s hustling for her paycheck just like the rest of America, and she identifies with the ‘struggles of the working class,'” commented a third user. “Seriously? Whoopi earns $8 million a year and is worth $60 million. What a horrible, stupid woman.”

“Talk about out of touch. Multi-millionaire Whoopi Goldberg claims to be part of the working-class because she has a job on The View,” a fourth user wrote.

(You’ll note the users are all saying $60 million – but for us working folk, what’s the difference between $30 million and $60 million?)

Goldberg’s Previous Comments

It seems that money is something that has been on Goldberg’s mind for quite some time. Back in September, she was asked what her favorite thing is about continuing to work on The View.

“Getting paid,” she replied with no hesitation. “I do enjoy getting a paycheck. I’m not going to lie.”

This also comes months after Goldberg opened up about her relationship status. After three failed marriages, she admitted that she’s a “selfish” person who prefers hookups to longterm relationships these days.

“I am fundamentally a selfish person and I’ve found that because I have a wonderful kid, and a son-in-law, and three grandkids and one great-grand[kid], that I don’t have time for a whole lot of other people coming into my life,” she said. “Hit-and-runs are great, I don’t mind those, but you can’t spend the night.”

At the time of this writing, Goldberg has yet to respond to the backlash over her latest comments about money. Perhaps she should think twice before discussing her financial issues in the future!
