On Tuesday’s episode of her ABC talk show The View, Whoopi Goldberg went off on fans of the Kansas City Chiefs who are blaming Taylor Swift for her tight end boyfriend Travis Kelce’s slow start to this season.
Kelce’s Rough Start
While the Chiefs are 3-0 so far this season, Kelce’s receiving numbers have been down. Way down. Indeed, he has just eight catches on 12 targets for 69 yards and zero touchdowns. On Sunday night, when the Chiefs beat the Atlanta Falcons, Kelce only had four catches for 30 yards. Kelce was seen looking sad during the game.
Some Chiefs fans have taken to blaming Kelce’s relationship with Swift for this. The former ESPN analyst Todd McShay recently pointed out that Kelce spent much of the offseason traveling the world to watch Swift perform on four different continents: South America, Australia, Asia, and Europe.
Since Swift returned to North America last month, she and Kelce have been spotted partying at places like the U.S. Open tennis tournament in New York City.
“Every show I watch, every pregame show, halftime show, postgame show, weekday show, every broadcast I watch for the last few weeks, it’s like are we not allowed to say that he’s out of shape, that he’s been partying all offseason?” McShay said on Monday.
“He’s been jet-setting around with the most famous person probably in the entire world, that’s he drinking, going to the U.S. Open,” he added.
Goldberg Fires Back
This didn’t sit well with Goldberg, who spoke out to defend Swift and Kelce on Tuesday morning.
“They apparently forgot that they won a Super Bowl last year with [Kelce], and [he and Swift] were just as tight then as they are now,” Goldberg said. “Grow up, y’all. Stop putting this on her. Your team is fine, your team is doing well. Shut up.”
Goldberg went on to say that she doesn’t think Kelce’s busy private life has anything to do with how he performs on the field.
“He might have been a little busy, and maybe he’s not 12 anymore,” she continued. “He’s still a valuable player.”

Kelce Goes Hollywood
Swift isn’t Kelce’s only distraction off the field, however. Kelce also spent the offseason launching his Hollywood career by starring in Ryan Murphy’s upcoming FX series Grotesquerie!
“I cannot wait to see everybody’s reaction of me being in a mystery thriller. Kinda scary,” Kelce said on Wednesday’s episode of his New Heights podcast. “What the […] is going on? It’ll get you thinking now.”
“Buckle up, boys!” he warned.
The first two episodes of Grotesquerie! are set to premiere tonight at 10 p.m. ET/PT on FX.

Kelce Becomes A Game Show Host
On top of that, Kelce has been tapped to host the game show Are You Smarter Than A Celebrity? He’s already filmed the 20-episode Amazon Original series. The first three episodes are set to drop on October 16 on Amazon Prime. From there, one episode will drop weekly on Wednesdays.
“I grew up loving game shows, and I’m excited to be following in the footsteps of so many TV icons by hosting my very first one with Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?” Kelce told Entertainment Tonight earlier this year.
“The original show is a great success, so to be bringing a new format with everyone’s favorite celebrities to the screen, will definitely be entertaining,” he continued. “I’m just happy to be on the hosting side of the equation here and excited to see how these famous faces keep up.”
Clearly, Kelce has a whole lot more than just football on his plate these days. It will certainly be interesting to see if he is able to bounce back this season and get it together on the field!
