Whoopi Goldberg is claiming that she is “not racist” after admitting to saying “stupid stuff” while drunk. This occurred during a truly bizarre segment on Thursday’s episode of the ABC talk show The View.
Things Get Weird On The View
It all started when Goldberg, 69, introduced a Hot Topic about Democratic Maine politician Graham Platner’s problematic past. During this segment, Goldberg and her co-hosts talked about Platner’s controversial skull tattoo. This has stirred up controversy as he tries to unseat Sen. Susan Collins, as many feel that the image is connected to Nazi symbols.
“When you’re drunk, you tell the truth,” said co-host Joy Behar, 83. This was a reference to Platner claiming that he got the tattoo during a night of drinking in Croatia while he served with the Marine Corps. back in 2007.
Behar went on to bring up the Oscar-winning Hollywood star Mel Gibson. Indeed, she referenced a 2006 incident in which Gibson was accused of anti-semitism for words he said while being arrested.
“When I have a couple of glasses of wine, I don’t start spouting Nazi slogans,” Behar argued.
That’s when Goldberg stepped in.
‘When I Was Drinking…’
“When I was drinking, strange stuff came out of my mouth, yes. You know what, nothing like that to us now, but to people then, it would’ve sounded…” Goldberg said.
Behar attempted to cut her off by saying, “Yeah, but it wasn’t racist. It wasn’t anti-Semitic.”
“You don’t know that,” Goldberg replied. Behar once again attempted to help Goldberg out by saying, “I do know that.”
Despite this, Goldberg proceeded to double down.
“I can’t tell you that when I used to get drunk, I didn’t do stupid stuff,” Goldberg continued. “I know I drank and did stupid stuff, and I took responsibility for it.”
Not stopping there, Goldberg stressed that she wants to take responsibility “before it’s uncovered by other people.”
Goldberg then turned to the camera and said, “And don’t think I don’t think y’all will be looking for stuff. You can’t find anything of me drunk, because I haven’t drank in years.”
The ABC talk show then cut to commercial break. When it came back, Goldberg attempted to backtrack.
“Welcome back. Before we start, I just want to point out that my point was that people say stupid stuff sometimes when they’re inebriated,” Goldberg said. “I’m not a racist. I know how folks like to send that stuff in. Please don’t do that.”

Goldberg’s Past Accusations Of Racism
Goldberg has found herself in hot water for comments that she’s made about race in the past.
Back in 2022, Goldberg was suspended by ABC after she outrageously claimed that the Holocaust “was not about race.” Instead, she alleged that the Nazi genocide that resulted in the deaths of six million Jews involved “two groups of white people.”
After issuing multiple apologies, Goldberg was allowed to resume her duties on The View. Many would argue that a conservative never would have been given this pass to continue their career if they’d made such an ignorantly racist comment.
One year later, Goldberg once again found herself in hot water for making racist comments. On a 2023 episode of The View, she used a derogatory and racist term associated with the Romani people. Goldberg did so while referring to Donald Trump’s political base as “people who still believe that he got (expletive) somehow in the election.”

That same day, Goldberg issued a groveling apology.
“When you’re a certain age, you use words that you know from when you were a kid or you remember saying, and that’s what I did today,” Goldberg said. “And I shouldn’t have.”
Given her history of racial controversies, perhaps Goldberg should stay clear of discussing racism altogether. In the end, this serves as a reminder of just how ridiculous The View has become. No wonder nobody is watching anymore!
