We’ve previously reported that the Hollywood star Tom Selleck was left devastated by the cancellation of his hit show Blue Bloods. He starred on the CBS police drama from 2010 until the final episode aired in December of 2024.

In the wake of Blue Bloods going off the air, many have wondered what Selleck, 80, would do next. Now, insiders are saying that after decades of hard work in Hollywood, Selleck is finally taking a step back.

‘Taking His Foot Off The Gas’

“Tom’s finally taking his foot off the gas, and it’s a huge comfort to everyone who cares about him,” an insider told Closer Weekly. “For years, he was go-go-go around the ranch, tearing around on his ATV, and taking on projects like he was still in his 40s, but these days, he’s embracing a much more low-key routine.”

Selleck has lived on a 63-acre ranch in California for decades. He resides there with his wife Jillie Mack, who he’s been married to for 38 years. She’s said to be particularly relieved that Selleck has been taking it easy as of late.

“Jillie is grateful he’s listening to his body and slowing down. She’s been urging him for years to slow down and be more mindful,” the source explained. “She worried a lot about him overdoing it on the ranch and hurting himself. It’s such a weight off her mind to see him easing up.”

Selleck Has ‘Slowed Way Down’

Another insider close to Selleck said that while slowing down has been difficult for him, he’s still staying positive.

“He slowed way down since the show ended, which has been a big adjustment for him and a little tough, but thankfully he has Jillie to help keep his spirits up,” this source stated. “She’s thrilled to have him home more, and he’s certainly grateful to have more time to go on long walks with her and cuddle up on the couch.”

“He still gets out and does what he loves, but now it’s more gardening and feeding the horses instead of racing around on machinery,” the insider added.

In the end, now that Blue Bloods is off the air, Selleck is focusing on spending as much time with his family as he can.

“Jillie wants him around for as long as possible, she’s very thankful that he’s finally learning to live within his limits,” the source concluded.

Selleck Fought To Save Blue Bloods

Selleck made no secret of just how upset he was that CBS cancelled Blue Bloods. Indeed, Selleck spent much of last year desperately trying to save the beloved show.

“I’m kind of frustrated,” Selleck told TV Insider back in October. “During those last eight shows, I haven’t wanted to talk about an ending for Blue Bloods but about it still being wildly successful. In a Top 100 Shows of 2023-2024 (in total viewers, we were No. 9 out of 100), if you discount the three football shows, we’re No. 6!”

“My frustration is the show was always taken for granted because it performed from the get-go. So how do I feel? It’s going to take a long time to sort all of this out,” he continued. “I remember after the weekend [of the final episode’s shoot], I said, ‘I’ve got to get to bed early tonight because I have to do my dialogue for Monday.’ Well, there was no Monday. It’s just going to take a while.”

Blue Bloods was one of the few shows on television that celebrated both law enforcement and family values. That made it beloved by millions of fans who consistently tuned in to watch every Friday.

While we miss Blue Bloods just as much as Selleck does, we’re glad that he’s taking some time to lay low with his family. After bringing joy to his fans with many beloved Hollywood projects over the years, Selleck certainly deserves to be able to kick back and relax.

God bless you, Tom Selleck!
