Fans are worried about the health of the Hollywood star Tom Hanks after the 68 year-old two-time Oscar winner was seen with trembling hands while appearing on Saturday Night Live! over the weekend.

Hanks’ Trembling Hands

Hanks appeared in a “Five-Timers Club” segment to support host Martin Short. Other celebrities that also appeared in it were Scarlett Johansson, Paul Rudd, and John Mulaney.

Unfortunately for Hanks, however, fans were quick to notice that his hands seemed to be shaking in the segment.

“Is Tom Hanks’ hand shaking?” one fan questioned. Another said in response, “I also noticed it!!! And now I am concerned.”

“He was on The Graham Norton Show a while back and I noticed it there too…” a third fan stated. A fourth person reasoned, “Considering he’s almost 70! Yeah older people hands tends to shake a little.”

Medical Expert Weighs In

This isn’t the first time that fans have noticed Hanks’ hands appearing to shake. Back in June of 2022, Hanks’ hand was seen trembling as he held a microphone while promoting his movie Elvis. He appeared to try to control the shaking by placing his left hand at the bottom of the microphone, just below his right. At one point, Hanks also switched hands.

Dr. Stuart Fischer, a Yale University graduate with four years’ experience in emergency medicine, said at the time that shaking hands can be a symptom of Parkinson’s disease.

“Parkinson’s would be uppermost in most physicians minds,” Dr. Fischer told Daily Mail. “This trembling hand can be an early sign of the disease. One would think he would be on the path to a neurologists office now if not already. It could be weeks, months or years before it progresses. It could be like with the famous conductor James Levine, it did take many years for a leg tremor to evolve into a bodily manifestation.”

“The other condition it could be is an essential tremor, but this usually occurs at a younger age — although it can be worsened by anxiety and stress,” he said. “It usually affects people in their 20s and 30s.”

Is Diabetes To Blame?

Hanks is known to suffer from diabetes. When asked if the shaking could be connected to that, however, Dr. Fischer replied, “No link to type 2 diabetes. I’ve never heard of that at all.”

Robert H. Eckel, board member of the American Diabetes Association and a past president of the American Heart Association, disagreed.

“People living with type 2 diabetes and being treated with insulin or sulfonylurea may experience shaky hands if their blood glucose gets too low, which is a condition called hypoglycemia,” Eckel said. “There are a lot of potential reasons someone may experience shaky hands.”

“Whether you have diabetes or not, if you experience changes in your hands, feet or legs, you should work closely with your health care provider to determine the cause and appropriate treatment, if necessary,” he added.

We can only hope that nothing too serious is wrong with Hanks’ health. Please join us in saying a prayer for him!
