The A-list Hollywood star Tom Cruise’s new action movie Mission: Impossible – the Final Reckoning premiered in New York City on Sunday night. There, Cruise made it clear that despite being 62 years-old, he has no intention of retiring from doing action movies anytime soon.
In fact, Cruise intends to keep making action movies for at least the next 40 years, even when he’s over 100 years of age!
Cruise Defiantly Refuses To Retire
Cruise told The Hollywood Reporter that he’s previously said that he intended to keep making Mission Impossible movies until he is in his 80s. This is what Harrison Ford, 82, has done for his Indiana Jones films. Now, however, Cruise has a bigger goal in mind when it comes to his longevity in cinema.
“I actually said I’m going to make movies into my 80s; actually, I’m going to make them into my 100s,” Cruise said. “I will never stop….I will never stop doing action, I will never stop doing drama, comedy films — I’m excited.”
Though Cruise wants to keep making action movies forever, he’s confirmed that this will be the last Mission Impossible movie.
“It’s the final! It’s not called ‘final’ for nothing,” Cruise said.

Cruise Reflects On Decades Of Mission Impossible Movies
Cruise has been playing the fictional IMF agent Ethan Hunt since the first Mission Impossible movie came out back in 1996. At the time, Cruise was 34 years-old. He’s since reprised the role in seven more Mission Impossible, and Final Reckoning will be the last one. This has Cruise getting reflective about his decades working on the Mission Impossible franchise.
“There’s been so many levels of reward with the filmmakers that I’ve collaborated with, the crews, the people, the cultures that we’ve worked in,” he said of his time portraying Hunt.
“Everything that I’ve learned and continue to learn about storytelling, about life, about leadership, about character and every aspect of filmmaking,” Cruise continued. “It’s been exceptional, it really is exceptional. I feel very fortunate to be able to make the films that I make, and I love it. I love just making movies.”
Cruise has always made a point of performing his own stunts in the Mission Impossible movies. He’s done everything from jumping from one rooftop to another to hang from the bottom of an airplane. Doing these stunts has been a major highlight for Cruise when it comes to this franchise.
“There’s a lot of pre-stunt rituals that keep me alive — it depends on what I’m doing and the amount of preparation I have to do,” he explained. “A lot of thought goes into it, and they are very complex and very interesting.”
Final Reckoning Director Weighs In
For Final Reckoning, Christopher McQuarrie returned to direct. This will be his fourth time directing a Mission Impossible movie. McQuarrie had nothing but words of praise when asked about Cruise at the premiere.
“The most giving, most game — he’s down for anything,” McQuarrie gushed of Cruise. “Whether or not he understands something, he’s fully willing to jump into something, whether he feels it or not. He’s a great teacher and a great student.”
Mission: Impossible – the Final Reckoning hits theaters on Friday, May 23. Be sure to check it out if you love Tom Cruise and his action movies as much as we do!
