A lucky Titanic fan has secured the ultimate piece of Hollywood history after a rare production screenplay signed by the movie’s star-studded cast sold at auction for a bargain price.

Script Auctioned Off

The original script from the 1997 cinematic phenomenon went under the hammer at Clevedon Salerooms in North Somerset, South West England, fetching a surprisingly affordable final price of just over $800. The highly coveted movie memorabilia was sold as part of a spectacular single-vendor collection meticulously built over many years.

What makes this particular piece an absolute goldmine for film buffs is the incredible lineup of handwritten signatures scrawled across its cover.

The screenplay boasts authentic autographs from leading Hollywood icons Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, alongside key co-stars Billy Zane, Kathy Bates, and the late Gloria Stuart. Legendary filmmaker James Cameron also signed the piece, which comes complete with an official certificate of authenticity from Starpower Autographs.

Massive Rarity

Henry Michallat, the auctioneer and valuer who handled the sale, revealed that a fierce bidding war broke out over the item, with three passionate collectors desperately battling it out to take the historic prize home.

Michallat explained that finding a signed cast script is a massive rarity for film collectors in the current market.

He noted that scripts do not come to auction that often compared to other Titanic memorabilia, such as pieces of physical furniture, ceramics, or screen-worn clothing, which usually fetch incredibly high prices at major international auction houses.

Speaking to the BBC, he said, “[Scripts] don’t come to auction that often compared to other Titanic memorabilia – pieces of furniture, ceramics, clothing – which usually fetch very high prices. So this was a really perfect, affordable piece for a fan.”

The physical script offers a tangible connection to a tragic love story that completely redefined modern cinema history. The sweeping romance followed star-crossed lovers Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Rose (Kate Winslet) aboard the ill-fated maiden voyage of the RMS Titanic in 1912.
