The Incredibles 3 has a new director. Peter Sohn (Elemental, The Good Dinosaur) will direct the third installment of the animated franchise instead of Brad Bird.
Bird wrote and directed the first two films, but it is sure to be a smooth transition.

Brad Bird and His Impact
Brad Bird has always been at the helm of The Incredibles. Bird wrote the screenplays for and directed the first two films, which have earned a combined $1.8 billion at the box office.
He is currently working on the screenplay for the third film, but is taking a step back from directing the film to work on Ray Gunn.
Bird and Sohn’s Connection
While big shoes to fill, Sohn has worked with Bird before. The two have a long history of collaboration.
Sohn has worked on every animated Bird film up until this year’s Ray Gunn.
Bird was a mentor to Sohn, and Sohn was specifically chosen to carry The Incredibles torch into the future by Bird and Pixar chief creative officer Pete Docter.

Peter Sohn’s History with Pixar
Sohn has worked with Pixar for a long time, both directing, behind the scenes, and voicing characters for various movies.
He voiced characters in Ratatouille, Monsters University, and Lightyear.
Sohn had a part in creating hits like The Incredibles, The Incredibles 2, Finding Nemo, Up, and Wall-E.
Taking a directorial job, Sohn worked on The Good Dinosaur and Elemental, which was nominated for the best animated feature Oscar last year.
When Was The Incredibles 3 Confirmed?
The Incredibles 3 was confirmed at the D23 Expo event in August 2024.
This will continue the franchise’s line of success. The first Incredibles was released in 2004 and grossed $630 million at the worldwide box office. Later in 2018, The Incredibles 2 became one of Pixar’s biggest releases ever with $1.24 billion at the worldwide box office.
Each film follows a superhero couple, Bob and Helen Parr, also known as Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl, who try to live a normal life with their three children. The children also have superpowers and must learn how to work together to defeat new enemies.

Upcoming Pixar Films
Pixar’s newest film will be Elio on June 20th, starring Yonas Kibreab, Zoe Saldaña, and Jameela Jamil.
It centers on a little boy, Elio, who wants to see what’s beyond our Earth. When he gets beamed up and mistakenly labeled Earth’s ambassador, Elio must balance his Earth life with his new unearthly one.
Elio will also be the first Pixar film in twenty years to feature a blooper reel at the end of the film, bringing back a beloved staple of the animated films.
