It’s been nearly two years since the legendary Three’s Company star Suzanne Somers passed away. She died in October of 2023 after battling breast cancer for 23 years. Somers passed away one day before her 77th birthday.
Prior to her death, Somers was married to her beloved husband Alan Hamel, 88, for 46 years. Now, new reports have indicated that Hamel has found love again with one of Somers’ former co-stars.
Hamel Finds Love Again
Daily Mail obtained photos of Hamel out and about in Malibu, California on Monday with the actress-model Joanna Cassidy, 79. They were seen walking arm-in-arm in the romantic oceanside community by the Malibu Beach Inn on Carbon Beach. Hamel and Cassidy were even wearing matching white hats that they’d bought at the hotel gift shop.
This romance has come as a surprise to some, as Cassidy and Somers were former co-stars. Indeed, the two women starred together in the 1985 miniseries Hollywood Wives.
The official log-line for the miniseries describes it as “a three-part, six-hour adaptation of Jackie Collins’ book about a group of very wealthy, attractive, snobbish women who are caught up in the low life and high society of Hollywood.”
Cassidy played Marilee Gray in the miniseries, while Somers played Gina Germaine. Hollywood Wives, which was broadcast in February of 1985, also starred legendary actors like Candice Bergen, Angie Dickinson and Anthony Hopkins.
Hamel And Cassidy’s Lunch Date
Cassidy has been divorced from her ex-husband Dr. Kennard C. Kobrin for over 50 years. However, she was still inexplicably wearing her wedding ring on this outing with Hamel. She was dressed in a gray blazer over an off-white top with plaid pants.
Hamel and Cassidy were seen enjoying a lobster lunch date at Broad Beach Oyster Company. They then left the area in a black SUV.
Since Cassidy and Somers are former co-stars, some were surprised by this new romance. However, many others are just happy that Hamel has found love again. This appears to be his first romance since Somers’ death. In the wake of Somers’ passing, Hamel has been open about struggling to come to terms with it.

Hamel Struggles With Somers’ Death
In October of last year, on the one year anniversary of Somers’ death, Hamel opened up about his grief for her.
“Missing Suzanne is probably not a powerful enough word because for the past 55 years we didn’t even spend one hour apart,” Hamel said at the time. “It’s heartbreaking.”
“Suzanne and I were so close that she said when I wasn’t in the room she would miss me and I would miss her too – even though we were in the same house,” he continued. “We would actually go to sleep holding each other’s hands which was so special to me.”
Hamel went on to talk about how much his life had changed since losing Somers.
“Now for the first time in 55 years I’m alone; I have not lived alone much in my life – the only time was for two weeks and I hated it,” he lamented. “I was very young and I just didn’t like it.”
While she might be surprised that he picked one of her former co-stars, we can only imagine that Somers would be happy that Hamel has found love again. We wish Hamel and Cassidy the best of luck in this new romance!
