Dolly Parton lost her beloved husband Carl Dean, who she was married to for nearly 60 years, when he passed on Monday at the age of 82. Dolly, understandably, has been devastated by this loss.
Now, Dolly’s sister Stella, who is also a country music singer, has broken her silence to address his passing.
Stella Speaks Out After Carl Passes Away
After Dolly, 79, announced her husband’s death, Stella, 75, took to her own social media account to give her own statement.
“On behalf of my sister Dolly, our family and Carl’s family we appreciate your prayers at this time,” Stella wrote.
This came after it was announced on social media that Carl had passed away.
Stella Parton has had her own stellar career, starting with the release of her first album in 1967. She is prolific like her sister, having released a whopping 22 albums.
She also has a pretty extensive resume on the big and little screens, just like her sister.
It can’t be easier to see her family suffer right now.
Dolly Parton, 79, said of the news, “Carl and I spent many wonderful years together,” she said. “Words can’t do justice to the love we shared for over 60 years. Thank you for your prayers and sympathy.”

Dolly And Carl’s History
Dolly and Carl had been married since 1966. They never had any children. Despite being married to one of the most famous women in the world, Carl always preferred to stay out of the spotlight. Instead, he preferred to spend much of his time on the farm that he and Dolly shared in Tara, which is located just outside of Nashville.
“I always joke and laugh when people ask me what’s the key to my long marriage and lasting love,” Dolly told People Magazine in 2018. “I always say ‘Stay gone!’ and there’s a lot of truth to that….I travel a lot, but we really enjoy each other when we’re together and the little things we do.”
Back in December, Dolly admitted in an interview with her fellow country music star Jelly Roll’s wife Bunnie XO that she and Carl were opposites. Indeed, she believes that this is what attracted them to one another.
“He’s quiet and I’m loud, and we’re funny,” Dolly said at the time. “Oh, he’s hilarious. And I think one of the things that’s made it last so long through the years is that we love each other [and] we respect each other, but we have a lot of fun.”
Dolly And Carl ‘Never Fought’
Dolly went on to say that humor played a major role in her marriage.
“Anytime [there’s] too much tension going on, either one of us can like, find a joke about it to really break the tension, where we don’t let it go so far,” Dolly explained. “We never fought back and forth. And I’m glad now that we never did, because once you start that, that becomes a lifetime thing. I’ve seen it with so many people, and I thought, ‘I ain’t ever starting that.’”
Dolly and Stella are two of twelve Parton siblings. Dolly is the fourth child, and Stella is the sixth. Stella is not married, though she was previously married to Marvin Carroll Rauhuff from 1966 until they divorced in 1970. Together, they share one son.
This is clearly a very difficult time for Dolly and her entire family. Please join us in saying a prayer for them!
