We previously reported that the 84 year-old mother of the TODAY show host Savannah Guthrie has gone missing from her home in Tucson, Arizona over the weekend. Now, police have made a disturbing announcement about the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie as their fourth day of investigating it continues.
Still ‘No Suspects’ In Nancy’s Disappearance
Though police have been tirelessly investigating since Nancy was first reported missing at noon on Sunday, they are admitting that there are still “no suspects” in her case.
A Pima County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson confirmed this on Wednesday after speculation mounted online as to whether police had found any suspects.
“At this time, no suspects have been identified,” the spokesperson told The New York Post. “Detectives continue to speak with anyone who may have had contact with Mrs. Guthrie. We are also awaiting additional forensic results.”
“We have been in close contact with the Guthrie family, and they continue to receive updates as the investigation progresses,” the spokesperson continued. “At this point, there is no credible information indicating this was a targeted incident.”
The sheriff’s department later reiterated this in a blistering statement posted to social media. In it, they called out the “irresponsible” sharing of potential suspects and unverified claims online.
“At this point, investigators have not identified a suspect or person of interest in this case,” the sheriff’s department stated. “While we appreciate the public’s concern, the sharing of unverified accusations or false information is irresponsible and does not assist the investigation.”
“No suspect or person of interest has been identified at this time,” the statement concluded.
Nancy Goes Missing
Nancy was last seen when she was dropped off at her $1 million home by her son-in-law at around 9:45pm on Saturday, January 31. In the early hours of Sunday morning, Nancy’s pacemaker lost contact with her iPhone, which had been left at her house along with her wallet and other belongings.
Nancy was reported missing hours later when she didn’t show up for church services. She’s known as a devout Christian, so a fellow worshipper immediately raised the alarm. Nancy’s family rushed to her home to try and find her, but there was no trace of the 84 year-old. They immediately reported her missing, and a desperate search began.
Police sources have since told Daily Mail that blood has been found inside Nancy’s home. There were other signs of forced entry as well.
Though police say that Nancy is “sharp as a tack,” she is physically frail and has limited mobility. She also has medication that she relies on for survival every day. This medication was left behind at her home.
According to a 911 call about Nancy’s disappearance that was obtained by Page Six, she “has high blood pressure, [a] pacemaker and cardiac issues.”
“If she doesn’t have [her meds] in 24 hours, it could be fatal,” Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos previously stated.
Ransom Notes Sent To Media
Ransom notes have been sent to at least two media outlets regarding Nancy’s disappearance. These ransom notes include details about her alleged abduction that hadn’t made public about her disappearance, including what she was wearing at the time.
One of the ransom notes, which was sent to TMZ, demands a specific substantial amount of Bitcoin. While they didn’t reveal the exact amount, TMZ confirmed that it’s in the millions.
TMZ’s note reportedly also demands that the cryptocurrency be sent to a specific Bitcoin address. The publication has since verified that the Bitcoin address in the note is in fact real. Police are still investigating the authenticity of these ransom notes.
Meanwhile, Savannah, 54, has backed out of hosting the Milan Olympics, which begin on Friday. She immediately rushed to Tucson after her mother was reported missing, and she remains there with her family at this time.
This is clearly a terrifying situation for everyone involved. Please join us in saying a prayer for the safe return of Nancy Guthrie.
