It’s been three months since the TODAY show host Savannah Guthrie’s 84 year-old mother Nancy Guthrie was kidnapped from her home in Tucson, Arizona. Sadly, no trace of her has been found, and she remains missing at this time.
Now, the investigation into Nancy’s disappearance has taken a disturbing turn. Indeed, a retired FBI agent is weighing in on the blood splatters that were found outside of Nancy’s home after she disappeared.
Ex-FBI Profiler Sounds Off
Jim Clemente, who spent 22 years working as an FBI profiler, told Fox News that the blood splatter shows that Nancy was still alive when she was taken from her home by her lone captor.
“We also know at least that she was alive at that time,” Clemente said.
When police arrived at Nancy’s home after her disappearance, they found that there was a concentration of round droplets near the front door. They then found a thinning trail toward her driveway.
“She must have aspirated and then coughed up blood with her face very close to the ground,” Clemente continued. “And I don’t believe that would have happened had two people been carrying her at that point.”
Nancy was last seen on the night of Saturday, January 31. That evening, she had dinner with her daughter Annie and son-in-law Tommaso Cioni. They dropped her off at home afterwards at around 9:45pm, and she tragically hasn’t been seen since.
A masked intruder was captured on Nancy’s doorbell ring camera in the early hours of February 1. He managed to cover the camera with some plants before moving forward with the kidnapping.
It has since been revealed that the masked man had been seen in the doorbell ring camera prior to the night Nancy was taken. This indicates that he may have been casing out her home.
Nancy’s Kidnapper Makes Mistake
When the suspect arrived at Nancy’s home on the night of her disappearance, he used foliage to block her doorbell camera’s lens. Clemente believes that in doing this, the kidnapper made a huge mistake that could result in him being apprehended.
“In the process of doing that, I believe he revealed what looked like a tattoo on his wrist, which would not have been revealed had he adequately prepared for that camera being there,” Clemente explained. “So it tells me that he is not a sophisticated offender. He was sort of bumbling his way through this, and he made other mistakes, and I believe those mistakes will directly lead to his capture.”
Investigators have kept details about what they’ve found inside of Nancy’s home close to their chests. However, some details have leaked, and they’re very telling, according to Clemente.
“I believe that what it means is he threatened her with his gun when he was at her bedside,” Clemente stated. “He got her to come down, and at the front door is where she realized he’s going to take me and this is very dangerous and I should fight. And she did.”
‘They Will Have His Name…’
The doorbell video does not show Nancy being taken from her home. The camera itself was also missing when police arrived at the scene. However, the FBI was able to recover video anyway, which Clemente said likely came as a shock to the kidnapper.
“Because of all the mistakes this guy made, because of his ineptness and non-professional behavior in this, I believe that he exhibited a great degree of stress when the images were first released,” Clemente said. “Anybody around him should have noticed that change in behavior and potentially be able to identify him because of that.”
An unidentified hair sample was also found inside the home. It has been sent to the FBI for advance analysis, and the results are pending at this time.
“If it is a hair from the offender, then it will lead to his identification,” Clemente concluded. “They will have his name.”
Savannah Returns To TODAY
As for Savannah, she bravely returned to the TODAY show last month. She’d spent the previous two months in Tucson desperately trying to find her mother, to no avail. Finally, Savannah decided that she needed to get back to both her job and her family, which includes her husband and two young children.
“I will not fall apart,” Savannah, 54, defiantly told her former TODAY colleague Hoda Kotb just before her return. “I will not let whoever did this take my children’s mother from them, I will not let them take my joy.”
“They will not take my sister’s joy, they will not take my brother’s joy,” she continued. “They will not take our love, they will not take our faith. But our anguish is real. We need help. We need someone to tell the truth.”
This has clearly been an incredibly difficult and devastating time for Savannah, and for the entire Guthrie family. Please join us in saying a prayer for the return of Nancy Guthrie.
