Sandra Bullock and Jennifer Aniston have been two of the biggest stars in Hollywood since the 1990s. That’s why it came as a shock when Bullock revealed in a new interview that she was initially told not to “like” Aniston when they were younger.

Indeed, the two of them were “pitted against each other,” according to Bullock. Thankfully, they were able to overcome this and create a friendship that is still going strong to this day.

Bullock And Aniston ‘Weren’t Supposed To’ Be Friends

Bullock, 61, told Vanity Fair that she and Aniston, 56, bonded fifteen years ago even though they were told that they “weren’t supposed to” be friends.

“We were from that time in the business where no one wanted the ladies to be friends — it was about pitting everyone against each other,” Bullock recalled. “We were told we weren’t supposed to do that — meaning like and respect and honor each other.”

Despite this, Bullock and Aniston immediately hit it off when they met at a mutual friend’s wedding.

“We were just like, ‘Oh my God, we need to meet and cut loose,’” Bullock recounted. “And we did.”

Aniston chimed in to joke about Bullock’s hangover the next day, saying, “I don’t know what I was sending her, but it was definitely stronger than what she was sending me.”

Bullock Praises Aniston

Not stopping there, Bullock continued to heap praise on Aniston.

“I think her superpower is that she could very easily be hard, but she’s incredibly open,” Bullock said of the former Friends star. “People want to know about her and understand where she is in life and want her to be happy.”

Bullock later talked about how inclusive Aniston is. One thing that the two women enjoy doing together is numerology readings in which “you write down your birth date and, whether you believe in it or not, we’re all scribbling down our thoughts and in it together.”

“Nothing is for her alone ever,” Bullock added. “Everything she does is for everyone else included.”

Aniston made it clear that this friendship means the world to her as well.

“There’s a motivation of going, ‘Okay, we need to go somewhere. Where are we going?'” Aniston explained. “I’m desperately trying not to Howard Hughes myself.”

Bullock And Aniston’s Fear Of Flying

Bullock and Aniston have also bonded over their mutual fear of flying.

“The two of us on a plane — it’s the most pathetic thing to look at,” Bullock said with a laugh. “Usually it’s us grabbing each other’s arms from across the table with our heads down.”

Bullock concluded by revealing that Aniston comforted her on a flight two years ago when she was “not in a great place.”

“She just held onto my hand and goes, ‘This is just a bump,'” Bullock remembered. “I was like, ‘Who the [expletive] are you right now?!”

Bullock and Aniston have been two of the most famous women in Hollywood for decades. That’s why it comes as no surprise that they’re close friends in real life. God bless them for defiantly refusing to allow themselves to be “pitted against each other” forever. In the end, life is simply too short for that!
