The comedian Roseanne Barr is speaking out this week to make a surprising claim about the Oscar-winning Hollywood star Goldie Hawn.
When Barr was 18 years-old, she placed her daughter up for adoption. While appearing on Bunnie XO’s Dumb Blonde podcast on Monday, Barr made the surprising revelation that throughout her entire childhood, this daughter believed that her mother was Hawn!
Barr’s Daughter Thought Hawn Was Her Mom
Barr was just a teenager when she gave birth to a baby girl in Denver, Colorado. She told Bunnie XO that she “got to have” the baby for a week before placing her up for adoption.
“I told her when they came to get her, ‘Well, I’ll see you when you’re 18.’ I knew,” Barr said. Indeed, she “always knew that we’d find each other when she was 18.”
Sure enough, Barr, 72, was reunited with her daughter Brandi Brown, 53, eighteen years later. It was then that Barr learned that based on the limited information that Brown had from the adoption agency, she thought that Hawn was her biological mother.
“All she knew was that her mother was famous in Hollywood, and Jewish,” Barr explained. “And so she thought it was Goldie Hawn, was her mom, because she looked just like Goldie Hawn.”

Brown Learns The Truth
It wasn’t until Barr was starring in her hit sitcom Roseanne in 1989 that Brown learned the truth.
“I was on TV, and that’s how they found me,” Barr recalled, referring to the National Enquirer. “My boyfriend at the time [Tom Arnold], I found out way later, he went to the Enquirer and told them that I had a baby that I gave up.”
The Enquirer allegedly contacted Barr first, telling her that they were going to run a story about her and Brown “whether you want us to or not.” They wanted to photograph Barr and Brown meeting for the first time, but the comedian immediately refused.
Then the tabloid magazine contacted Brown.
“The Enquirer called her, and she answered the phone, my daughter, and they said, ‘Would you like to know who your mother is?’ And she’s all excited thinking it’s going to be Goldie Hawn,” Barr recounted.
“And they go, ‘It’s Roseanne Barr,’ and her words — so hilarious — she goes, ‘Christ, I didn’t even know she was a Jew,’ which is so hilarious,” Barr added. “And she was mad too, ‘cause I was fat and everything.”
When Brown took a closer look at a photo of Barr, however, the resemblance immediately became clear to her.
“She goes, ‘Oh my god, I do look just like her.’ And she took the picture to the mirror,” Barr said. “And she just kept looking and going, ‘I do, I look exactly like her.’”

Brown And Barr Meet
The very next day, Brown flew out to meet Barr, who remembers that they “met, and it was wonderful.”
“So we’ve been back together since then, and she is now 53. And she is awesome,” Barr gushed. “She has a son, and a lovely husband. She’s a wonderful woman.”
Watch Barr tell this full story in the video below.
In a 1989 interview, Barr talked about what meeting Brown was like.
“We looked at each other, Brandi jumped out of her seat, and we started running toward each other,” she said. “We embraced and wouldn’t let go of each other, hugging and crying.”
At the time, Barr told People Magazine that she was “pissed off” with the Enquirer for what the publication had done to her and Brown. In the new documentary Roseanne Is America, however, Barr said that she no longer feels any animosity towards the tabloid.
“Am I upset about it?” she said in the documentary. “No. I’m grateful.”
These days, Brown is still living in Colorado. She is currently a leader in the 1 Billion Acts of Peace Campaign. This organization encourages people around the world to log actions that promote peace and compassion.
How cool is that?!
Barr and Hawn are two stars that fans wouldn’t typically associate with one another. Indeed, we can only imagine how surprised Hawn was to find herself involved in all of this!
In the end, we’re glad that the story of Barr and Brown had a happy ending. They seem to share a strong bond, and they’re lucky to have one another. We wish both Barr and Brown many years of happiness together to come!
