Yesterday, we reported that the former All In The Family star Rob Reiner was found dead along with his wife Michelle on Sunday. They were allegedly murdered by their own son Nick, who has since been arrested. Now, chilling new details about the murders have come to light.
Reiner Murder Details
A source close to the Reiner family told TMZ that Rob, 78, and Nick, 32, were seen getting into a “very loud argument” the night before the murders. This argument reportedly took place at a Christmas party that was hosted by Conan O’Brien.
“Nick was freaking everyone out, acting crazy, kept asking people if they were famous,” an insider told People Magazine.
Another source alleged that Nick looked out of place at the party because he was wearing a hoodie when it was a formal event.
Rob and Michelle, 68, reportedly left the party after the argument between him and Nick. They were found dead in their $13.5 million mansion by their daughter Romy, 28, at around 3:30pm the next day. Police sources have told Daily Mail that they were stabbed to death, with their throats being slit. Nick was arrested for their murders around six hours. later.
“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner,” the Reiner family told Variety. “We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.”
Reiners ‘Tried Everything’ To Help Nick
Michelle had reportedly anguished to friends over the past few months about Nick’s mental health and substance abuse issues. She allegedly didn’t know what else to do to help him, saying that, “we’ve tried everything.”
Rob and Michelle are also parents to an older son Jake, 34. On top of that, Rob is father to an adopted daughter Tracy, 61, from his previous marriage to the late former Laverne & Shirley star Penny Marshall.
Rob and Michelle frequently attended events with their three children. They were most recently joined by Jake, Nick, and Romy at the September 9 premiere of Spinal Tap II.
“They were such a tight-knit family, they did everything together,” a family source said. Even so, “they could never reach stability with Nick. They tried everything — giving him space, keeping him close — but his struggles are so deep. It’s just a parent’s worst nightmare.”
“They were such lovely people,” another insider lamented. “And tried in every way to help their son.”
According to a neighbor of the Reiners, Nick has had violent episodes in the past.
“This is not the first time their son has been violent,’’ a longtime neighbor of the victims told The New York Post.
“I know of another incident a few years back with Nick, but I won’t say more than that,’’ added the neighbor, who wishes to remain anonymous. “I just never thought it would ever get to this point.”
Aside from starring in All In The Family, Rob also directed some of the most beloved movies of all time. Indeed, his films include The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, and more.
